Had a project that needed some grinding on. My little pneumatic die grinder would not handle business so I finally bought myself a nice 4.5-5” Metabo grinder made in Germany.

Well, I’d fire it up and start grinding then every cicada in the tree I was under would start swarming and landing on me.
Turn it off and stop grinding they quit swarming. Started grinding and here they come again.

Sure was a pain especially when they would fit near my ears.
But got it all ground down and working properly!

They don’t like lawn mowers, or pressure washers either.

That's funny. At least you can kill them and stop the noise.
Metabo is a company that is overlooked. They make good tools.

Metabo is old Hitachi power tools…and I agree they make great tools.

This is not entirely accurate.

Metabo HPT line is the old Hitatchi stuff.

The one I bought is not from the HPT line but the German stuff. While the Metabo/Hitachi stuff is good it’s no longer even owned by Hitachi.

I worked in my Uncle’s metal fabrication shop in the late 90s to early 2000s lots of true Metabo tools in that shop and especially grinders and those suckers were beasts. Never saw one complete fail. A cord replacement here and there and a brush set replacement but other than that they just flat ran.

I splurged a bit and got the most powerful unit, with tooless disc changes, nice clutch, and lockable power switch.

I also spent a few bucks more and bought it from the local Grainger store as I did not want to worry about getting a fake ordering online.

Its sad the box stores dont carry quality tools anymore. Their quest for low prices nullified the quality. Look at porter Cable, not what they once were. No more Delta in stores like Depot.

I've got a HPT grinder, got it when I was building the Lotus. Has come in handy a few times. Luckily, not during cicada season, apparently. Big Grin
