Looking to get this WEN
https://wenproducts.com/produc..._sid=3d7f55d6c&_ss=r

Trying to figure out the best way to convert it to natural gas been reading a bunch but not really sure what kits are the best to go with.

Yes, I know Honda and Yamaha are king but can’t drop that coin.

This WEN is a good price for the power and options that gets good reviews.
Most use will be at the house and have NG so would like to utilize that.

Since you're buying new, better off buying a generator already equipped to use natural gas:
  • already tested to work
  • less time on your part
  • warranty stays intact. If you choose aftermarket conversion, you're likely voiding your generator warranty.

Does Wen sell a conversion kit? If they do, that would alleviate concerns #1 and #3.

Looking at this: 3,500 watts on gasoline, 3,150 on propane then figure 20% lower on natural gas or 2,420 watts.

Now figure the cost of the conversion kit and hiring a licensed plumber to install an NG outlet appropriately distanced from any opening in your house and weigh that against a couple 5 gallon jugs of gasoline if your power goes out at some point.

Couldn't find a NG kit on WEN's sight, they do have a contact page, Link could call and ask them if their products could be safely run on NG.

There are plenty of tri fuel generators out there that can run NG, not all break the bank in a similar price point as the WEN, but they are not inverters.

Pulsar makes a tri fuel inverter, but it's $2600 and puts out more than double the power of the one listed.

Last time at Costco they have a tri fuel, electric start generator under $900. Harbor freight Predator generators get good reviews

On the Tri-Fuels they show the power the generator will create using the alternative fuels, IIRC the NG and LP generate less power when running in that mode than on gasoline...

I need to convert mine to LP, do you have any preferred conversion kits you've looked at so far?

    Echoing tatortodd here.

If you're allergic to using propane for some reason, get a unit that's designed for use with - and warrantied for use with - your preferred fuel up front.

Have a look at Genmax also.

I bought a dual fuel inverter 9000w. Very quiet and efficient. Ran my entire house during the storm that came through a month ago

Double check the NG supply you have. Often it’s too small to supply a generator

Deep Homo sells a well-reviewed Champion trifuel inverter. It has more capability than the Wen and costs more, but it's a nice price point for similarly sized trifuel inverter generators.

All the tri-fuels are massive and not inverters.
The 4500 I am looking at is a bit oversized but I look at it like a gun safe may as well go a size or two up.

Only going to be running the fridge, freezer, blower for gas furnace, and a single bedroom.

It also needs to be easily portable and fit under the tonneau cover of my truck.

I have one of these on a Honda 2000i. Works great. Sometimes propane is just more convenient like when camping. It functions flawlessly with gas as well. Available for several size generator’s.

The problem with running on NG is the entire system. You have to run the NG line to the generator. So, you have to get a NG contractor to create that solution. T, valve, black pipe, etc. That stuff is expensive. Then, you have to ground the generator properly. And, of course, either violate good practice to backfeed your panel or add a transfer switch for selected circuits. More money. A NG generator of only 3500 watts would not be worth all the extra. I was quoted $15K for a real whole house generator, NG, and a new circuit breaker panel with integrated transfer switch, and all the NG line, and a line from the NG meter to my back deck for the grill. I regret not taking that contractor up on his offer. Maybe next year.

Nash Fuel and Motor Snorkel are the kits that seem to get pretty good reviews.
    Guess I will contact them.

I have the electrical break out panel and the NG connection taken care of.
Just need to buy the conversion kit. Which range from $175-$250.
Well worth it to be able to hook up the natural gas and have a nearly unlimited supply in an outage and not have to worry about running out of gasoline or propane.
But will still have those options if I travel.

Did you give them a call?

They might have a suggestion on which kit to use or even if it's a good idea on their products, or, if you void the warranty.

Feel free to give us a call at 1-847-429-9263 (M-F 8AM-5PM CST)
