I see Sig has discontinued their MAG-556-30BLK-PLY. It is their 30 round mags. I have quite a few and have never used them yet. I just loaded up 5 and don't want any surprises if needed before I get to the range. I also am considering selling a few but don't want to screw anyone up if they are known defectives. Thank you in advance.

Why does discontinuing them make you think they are defective?

If you are worried, try them out.

The question is Why with all the competing options available did SIG ever decide to make their own AR magazines in the first place? Is there something special about them that countless other mags won’t do as well, if not better? Perhaps someone there just woke up one day and thought, “Why are we doing this? We’re not making any money from them and they’re just something else to keep in inventory.”

Likely because no one buys them anymore. I had two with my SIG556 when I had it and learned there are far better / more durable options out there...

In a world of $9.99 Okay 30rd and $12-15 Magpul 30rd magazines, these SIG poly 30rd mags simply are 'meh' by comparison, even more so when SIG and others try to charge $20+ for them.

In his defense, with 34 posts in 8 years he may not be here as much as some.

You are correct I am not here often. I have a love/hate relationship with SIG. The question was clearly stated. I have not read any memo 220-9er sir. My concern has been answered. The mags are not popular and overpriced. They work fine is what I gather. I will try them out soon. I prefer the aluminum D&H. It was a safety concern that I posted. I don't want to share dangerous equipment with family and friends. The discontinued item caused alarm in me. Thank you guys who posted in a friendly manner. In this current state of chaos and weakness from our leaders, I and you ought to be alarmed.

Wait, Whut?!? You mean SIG:

1) Introduced an overpriced, yet innovative product that enjoyed mediocre sales.

2) Sold and distributed this innovative and overpriced product with it's rifles.

3) Without warning, discontinued the product (and probably the rifle itself while they were at it).

4) Introduced a new product based on the old one with no compatible parts.

5) No longer offers any support or parts for the old product.

I am completely shocked. This behavior is so out of character, it exists in its own zip code! Your claims are too outrageous to believe!

I'd talk more with you, but I have to meet the boys at the range with my SIG 516 AR and my Blaser LRS2. I hope I can find my mags for my Mauser M2.

You owe me a new keyboard after I did a coffee spit take over the old one.

Just in case you actually didn't realize...

The Owner of this forum has communicated multiple times that click bait, or partial, incomplete subject lines not be used.

No biggie but your title
"Why has Sig..."

Should have read more like
Why has Sig discontinued their 30 round mags?

Not many folks want to have to open every thread to see what the actual subject is.

And perhaps drop in more often Cool

I now understand and will certainly comply. I used it for brevity and see where it could be a marketing come on. I apologize. I'll only be ignorant once. It has been edited.

Thanks, RedRiver. Since the 'clear and unambiguous subject line' guidleline is not written anywhere, our infrequent guests have no way of knowing this. You handled it well. No apology is necessary.

Guys, when you see this kind of thing from an infrequent poster, feel free to make them aware of the guideline, but please do so in a polite and helpful manner.
