Nashville area housing? Login/Join

Hello all,

I am considering applying for work with The Daily Wire in Nashville and am trying to research cost of living in the area as it would be a substantial pay cut to make the move. One of the biggest concerns is housing, of course.

I wouldn’t expect housing rates in a big city to be low, comparatively, and as such, I am open to some sort of commute. The problem is I don’t know what is reasonable for the area.

Further complicating the search is the fact that DW seems to have taken steps to protest their physical address from casual discovery. This is not surprising and is probably wise… but it makes it harder to figure out where reasonable locations for commuting are.

Can anybody help point me to specific areas to look? I’m not asking for the location of the DW facility (not relevant at this point), just areas to look that are likely within commuting distance but with more affordable housing rates.

I appreciate any help anybody can offer.

Compared to California everything will seem on sale. The Belle Meade area is the nicest part of town. I think they are in Berry Hill a fifteen minute commute.

I’m sure I won’t be able to afford the nicest part of town. The job pays, according the listing, a little under median income for Nashville.

Median income there is about 10% above median income where I live now, but I make substantially over that. At first glance if housing is similar to the cost of housing here I don’t know that it would work.

If DW is in the Berry Hill area what’s a good location to look at for cheaper housing, let say no more than 30 minutes away?

Much of Nashville is out of control, you would think it was Manhattan or something.

As usual, you will get more in the suburbs, but traffic into Nashville can suck also. The cost of housing in md-TN where I live has risen dramatically in the last 10 years, but there are still areas that are affordable, but yes it will be a matter of your drivetime vs housing costs.

Without knowing more, all I can do is Mention some suburbs where housing is less expensive than other parts of Nashville. Most of this is on the west side with places like Kingston Springs, Bellevue, Pasquo. And then Brentwood is due south between Nashville and Franklin. Very popular suburb and not as posh as Franklin (or as snooty.)

Go 30 minutes outside Nashville and it gets rural quick in any direction

A coworker of mine moved near there, to Nolensville.
She and her husband like it there.

I grew up just south of Nashville in Columbia, and my folks still live in Smyrna.

If there is any chance of working from home with such a job, I'd highly recommend checking out the more rural areas outside of the city. It's a beautiful area and the urban areas have been (and still are) getting very busy.

Of course, this suggestion goes out the window if you really are one of those city folk. Smile

Not a city folk at all, would prefer a few isolated acres in the mountains somewhere, but just exploring options for potential employment.

That being said, it isn’t a job one could do from home, and DW is quite vocally against that in their advertisements and postings anyway.

Thanks for the hints, I can check out some of the areas mentioned. If anybody can ID the specific area DW is at that would help tremendously! Would hate to look “on the opposite” side of the metro area as I would not be willing to drive all the way across a large town like that.

Well, there aren't really 'mountains' in Middle Tennessee.
Hills, yes.
But not mountains.
That said, counties West and South of Metro Nashville/Davidson County will have the best scenery and nicest land.
But also the highest prices.
Especially in Williamson County (cities of Brentwood, Franklin) along the I-65 corridor.
Western Williamson county and Cheatam county will still be pretty but may be less expensive.
North of Nashville, Robertson and Sumner counties, are still nice and will be more affordable.
East and south-east of Nashville, Wilson and Rutherford counties, will be more affordable but less attractive from the scenery standpoint.
Traffic is getting bad everywhere in Nashville but is especially bad along the I-24 corridor coming from Rutherford county into Nashville.
Nashville itself has some up-and-coming neighborhoods that are nice and might be worth looking at . . . But do your research!
Hope this helps.
Good luck with the job search.

I'm in Nolensville, we like it. Housing here is NOT cheap mainly due to all the Cali folk heading here. Luckily we bought just before it went nuts. Look north of Nashville as well, think Hendersonville.
