Short version:

These people rented equipment from Home Depot in 16 counties across Florida and sold it to people who ordered it using social media. A total of 61 pieces of equipment that cost Home Depot well over a million dollars new were stolen.

The Attorney General of Florida, Ashley Moody, created a retail theft task force and results are happening.

This is the press conference with Sheriff Judd and AG Moody:

The video has everything, white Ford Explorers, chasing white Ford SUV, a back seat driver, a guy who can’t afford a belt, recidivism, stolen guns, Sheriff Judd’s commentary, a 267 page Affidavit of Probable Cause, etc. In case you miss the last part of the press conference, Sheriff Judd warns these thieves are no longer welcome on Home Depot property, they will be arrested and have their shiny, heinies taken to the county jail.

While some states are practically making retail theft legal, FL is creating tasks forces to track them down and bust them.

Damn I love my state.

Florida has turned into a beacon of sanity. Too much of the country has its head up their rectum.

“Anti Theft Class” haha what a crock!

Also, AG Moody’s speach was great. She has potential to go further than just Florida…

the slightly funny part is when the Florida State Attorney General is speaking and explaining how the state is not soft on crime and I'm reflecting on the first part of the presentation and when the sheriff was explaining the history of the arrest and release of the guy who is supposed to be the leader of the gang. I also think he missed pointing out an interesting observation... when the folks were stopped and being arrested the crooks at least to me appeared to know exactly what to do in this regard.... seems like they were experienced in this kind of road side event.

Our Judicial branch has been a problem for a long time. It will not clear itself up.

Two things I thought of when watching those parts:

First, my impression was they only had him on one count in one county the first time he was there arrested. Second, he was on probation for that. I don’t know how it works every time, but when they charged the guy who was arrested for trying to sell my dad’s Harley (he was they guy that stole it as well, but the case was weak), the prosecutor told us he could ask to have the guy put in the county jail for less than a year, or give him probation with 3-4 years in prison if he violated probation. We said go with probation and I’ll be darned; he violated the probation and went to prison for 3 1/2 years.
