That’s right, Yesterday I found out that Joe Biden had declared my wedding anniversary, June 19, a national holiday! What an honor! We’re going out for a nice meal today! Thanks, Joe! You say what?

Well, it was the first major massacre of, literally speaking, the Black Wall Street, right, years ago. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there. NRA ENDOWMENT LIFE MEMBER

Juneteenth is about freedom, so it would be better to have a holiday for the anniversary of your divorce. 12/20/2013 was the day the judge signed my divorce agreement. "Free at last, free at last, thank god almighty...."

No. This was a national holiday passed unanimously by both houses of Congress and signed by the president. It would take another bill passed by Congress and signed by the president to make it go away. No way any Congressman is going to vote against it and even if you had a small group, it would take 60 votes in the Senate to avoid a filibuster. It will never go away. “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

Wouldn’t The date of the Emancipation Proclamation be a better date for celebrating freedom of slaves in this country (1862)vs some date years later(1866)? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...ipation_Proclamation To me this is nothing but pandering....regardless if every congressman voted for it....the proper day would be Sept 22, 1862 "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. Heinlein “You may beat me, but you will never win.” sigmonkey-2020 “A single round of buckshot to the torso almost always results in an immediate change of behavior.” Chris Baker

Yes, this horseshit will be with us forever. Disgraceful. And yes, the Emancipation Proclamation, the passage of the 13th Amendment, whatever. Either would've been more appropriate in signifying the end of slavery, but as we know, that is not the goal of this un-holiest of holidays. It is not about celebrating anything. It is about the flagellation of a nation. Or more precisely, the scourging of "whiteness." The reason why the Emancipation Proclamation or the 13th Amendment couldn't be used for a holiday signifying the end of slavery is because it would be tied to Abraham Lincoln, or it would be associated with the men who passed the 13th Amendment. In other words, it is the story of the white man saving the black man. White men doing good things. And of course we can't have that. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

The useful idiots like it because Lincoln had already been assassinated and on June 19, 1865, the president was a Democrat. They ignore that on June 19, 1865, a white general under the command of a white president issued General Order No 3 in Galveston, TX:

Exactly. The recent virtue signalers just renamed the date and claimed it as their own, either out of ignorance of history or just because that's the way they do things (or both). ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Juneteenth has been colloquial/Texas thing since its inception. And it has been an official state of Texas holiday for the last 40 years. In the recent times it has been coopted as a marketing celebration (more real than something like Cinco de Mayo). Like a lot of the cultural battles going on, it has been weaponized by either extreme of the spectrum. The actual original issue date of the Emancipation Proclamation might be more technically proper, but Juneteenth has made its way into popular usage. It is a significant milestone in our history whether the original date or the Texas version. I’m okay with it, as there are way more significant issues worth a real battle. Bill Gullette

Lots of holidays are pandering for votes. In Chicago when I was a kid we had Columbus Day for the Italians, St. Patrick's Day for the Irish, and Casmir Pulaski day for the Polish. The had to stretch to find a Polish dude of historical significance, and Pulaski did help the US during one of the early wars. And of course MLK day was for the blacks. We didn't care why as long as we didn't have to go to school that day! There wasn't an official holiday for Hispanics back then, maybe there is now, and there certainly will be a Federal holiday in the future, just wait. It is annoying though, that Washington and Lincoln and all the other great leaders got combined into "President's Day". The factory labor in my company is unionized in part of the country, and company holidays for the non-union people always follow what the union negotiates. We did have MLK day until this year, and every year we heard many excuses from the "woke" senior leadership and why a day off is not honoring MLK, but we should reflect on his legacy while still working. Of course the plants in the southern states with a high percentage of black employees did get MLK day. After George Floyd and the new commitment to "equity" and "equal representation" they finally caved. Now we will see what they do with Juneteenth. But you know, I'm all for a paid day off. As a country we get far few holidays and far less vacation time than other countries.

Legally, that is probably not true. That was the date that slavery became constitutionally impossible. It could have been made illegal before that. Whether the Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery prior to that, as a legal matter, is a matter for legal and historical argument. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.
