If the goal is to get a sporty car that has some luxuries, and is fairly economival, may I suggest one of the new Genesis sport sedans? The G70 should fit the bill.

If you don't need the brand projection that comes with a high dollar German car, the Genesis is otherwise a beautiful car.

G80 is a solid alternative, if you're wanting more E-Class/5er size. Drove a few (Genesis & Hyundai badged) and quite liked them. One downside, was that the 3.8V6 G80 with AWD has a pretty atrocious MPG rating, compared to the RWD model.
Variety of engines available from a 3.8 V8, 3.3 twin-turbo V6 & the 5.0 (IIRC) V8.

I quite liked the Stinger as well, but haven't had a chance to check out the G70, which seems more sporty than it's Kia cousin.

Also, in lieu of an M/AMG option, an M-Sport 5er or AMG Sport Pkg E-class is a nice alternative to the M5/E63. Granted, with the E-class you're still in an AMG, with the E43, otherwise you're in the 4cyl turbo E300; unless you go CPO & get an E400/E450.

Edit: Looks like the E43 is discontinued for the E53 (hybrid), and the E450 remains.

Example - a modern 911, despite its performance, is too much a GT given its weight and comfort features. Likewise, many $60k trucks have lost the basic mission of a truck.

Everybody today is driving the current version of the traditional family station wagon. It doesn't matter if you put a fancy badge on it, it's still lipstick on a pig.

Never heard of Genesis cars. I take it they are South Korean???

And they’ve been around since just after WWI? And won how many 24H of Le Mans? Or even been in one?

I don’t think so. Nice cars I’m sure, but not for me.

Well, Toyota has won Le Mans twice...

Give us some more info, you seem to be all over the place.

What’s your budget?

Why BMW/Mercedes and not Audi or Porsche? If racing wins are important to you, those two brands leap out...

Are you looking to impress others with your luxury car, or drive it to the limit?

Genesis is Hyundai's luxury brand.

A Lexus, imo, just isn't in the same realm when it comes to styling or driving experience. Its a trade off. Go drive some and you'll probably realize it.

So Lexus made a supercar. Good for them. That's not what the thread is about. Do you equate a Ford to Mercedes since they make the GT?

And even if we were judging by brands' top of the line supercars, the LFA would still be way behind an SLS or a GT, imo.

Genesis is the luxury arm of Hyundai/Kia.
Yes Hyundai/Kia made some crap cars years ago, but they're nearly right up with Honda/Toyota now.

The G80 was formerly the Hyundai Genesis before Genesis was spun into its own brand.

No they don't have any top-tier racing provenance of those like Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche. But, they're making some nice cars, competitive with the German lux brands at 75-80% of the cost.

Personally, I'd likely have no problem with a G70 or G80 over my current 2015 C300.

I wasn't responding to the OP, I was responding to your comment, hence the quote.

The point of the LFA, prove Lexus can and do build exciting vehicles. In addition they have the F series line which adds performance and handling improvements to their vehicles.

I'm not knocking the other brands, they have positives and negatives, Lexus has positives such as being listed as having more reliability and less defects than luxury brand should.
Frankly It's not that Mercedes and BMW build problem cars, as much as it is the others simply build cars better now.

Anyway back to the subject, Lexus has the GS F, 467 HP V* the RC F and RC F Track edition, LC500, all exciting vehicles.

It’s a little bigger than a c63, and a lot more luxurious. I highly recommend checking one out.

I had an E55; it was a pretty spectacular csr!

In the OP I stated an R8 was out of my reach.

Let’s say $85k max.

I’m not big into used cars unless they are very low mileage.

This would be a weekend, around the town car. So fun, fast, and impressive. I’d love a supercar but I’m a working stiff. And, I won’t be going to any tracks. My truck will likely end up with one of those off-road, in bed, pop up type campers, so I’ll be wanting a reasonably practical car, but fast and fun car to hit the town for dinner, etc.

That is about the extent that I’ve thought it through.

Everything you have said fits absolutely perfectly into Porsche 911 (Certified Pre Owned) territory.

For $75-80k you can get a 2017-2019 911 with less than 10,000 miles, factory 3-4 year unlimited mile warranty from Porsche, and it looks and drives on a different level than any of the other options listed so far from the BMW/MB angle. The cars, given how owners treat them, look and feel absolutely new.

I have a 2013 911, 75k miles, and there is nothing like it on the road.
