PC is a HP EliteBook running Windows 7 Pro.

Last night my PC did a Windows update, and restarted. I logged in like I normally do after these happen, and had no WiFi. This has happened before on this PC and a restart resolved it, so I tried that.

Now it won't boot past the Welcome screen or if it does its just a black screen that I can move the mouse around on. I power off by holding down the power button. I booted into safe mode without a problem, shut down and still no bueno on reboot. So I booted into safe mode again, did a system restore to 5 am this morning, which was probably right before the update, and still no bueno on reboot. This was my only system restore point too, which is odd since I have it set to do one daily.

I've entered the HP Startup Menu during boot and I have a few HP tests in there for memory, and HD and all have passed. I tried to do a BIOS update, but I can't connect due to the original issue of no WiFi. This particular PC doesn't even have a network port either due to it being slim. I may have to go buy a USB to RJ45 to physically connect to the network, but I'm wondering if I even can since I probably need to install drivers for the adapter.

Anyone have any other suggestions at this point? Its my work laptop, but I work from home, and they're not the best group to deal with so I usually just solve issues myself.

I would try rolling back graphics driver in safe mode first.

There are toggles for turning on wi-fi usually a function key or sometimes another external button.
I have seen this a LOT in my IT clients.
It doesn't explain the booting issue which may be separate.
Since safe mode is working then clean boot and add in boot services/drivers one by one until it fails.
BIOS updates are not the issue and should only be done when necessary and with caution.

No change.

I did however get a different result during one of my reboot attempts. A small white window appears with Personalized Settings header. A search on that shows it might be something with my user profile.

The toggle does nothing for me in the HP Startup mode. It also didn't help with the original problem. When this happened before and now it was like I had no WiFi radio. I couldn't even enable or disable it through Windows.

In safe mode I turned off all of the startup programs and still nothing.

Sounds like the wi-fi problem is independent of the booting.

You need to get it to properly boot first then deal with the WI-Fi.

Then you will have the proper tools to analyze the issue.

Attach with Ethernet cable to start, then if you need to download any drivers or tools you can.

Yeah, I was just trying to give a full sit rep in case it was related.

The new user profile didn't help, going to try to remove the update now, but not sure that's any different than the system restore I already tried.
