Absolutely blows my mind that people are either too distracted, stupid, or ignorant to hear/see an emergency vehicle behind them and not yield by moving over.

As far as the left lane period, it also blows my mind the people who just seem to love to drive in the left lane and absolutely refuse to move over. In Texas signs are posted that the left lane is for passing only. Yet you have people doing 5-10 under the speed limit in the left lane with no car ahead of them for a mile and a ton of cars lined up behind them trying to get by. This causes people to make it more dangerous by trying to get into other lanes to get back around them when they can simply move over one lane to the right. These people either get a joy out of what they are doing, are completely freaking stupid, or oblivious to their surroundings.

For emergency vehicles, it should be that every car who doesn’t yield gets a traffic citation mailed to them from the dash video evidence.

Que those who believe that you can cruise in the left lane so long as you're not exceeding the speed limit.

Que those who think the roads are their personal autobahn.(which DOES have speed posted limits)
So how fast can you cruise the left? 100? 150?
what's the limit? How many miles can you "pass" traffic? Or is this some I wanna drive 100+ and stay out of my way shit?

To me, regardless of what speed you are doing and how long you have been in the left lane, if a car is approaching you from behind in the left lane then you move over and let them by.

To be fair to some of the cars and semis in the video:
1. They may have been distracted by, oh I don’t know, the crazy guy in the RAM?
2. The officers were booking it which doesn’t give people a lot of time to check that the lane next to them is clear before moving over.
3. The right lanes weren’t clear for people in the left to move over to the right.
4. There were curbs in a lot of places, so no place for the vehicles in the right lane to go.
5. There were even curbs on the left as well in a lot of places.

Well, the problem is, a lot of folks driving in Georgia aren't very concerned about traffic laws.

If they are turning left, they'll plug up the left lane for miles doing 42 in a 55. Every. Single. Time.

Then GDOT will make the traffic light go red both ways for one direction of traffic to turn.

It is even worse if you are driving near a college town, but even if you aren't, there will be someone from Florida tearing up the road at 54 MPH.

Then there are the spectators who have to slow down to see a car on the side of the road. Move along people! Its a car! Just not on the road!

By the end of that video, all I wanted to see was the K9 unit chew some ass, and then a leisurely stroll by the officers to call off the dog.

Of the states I drive through on my way to Michigan, I’ve found Georgia drivers to be the most courteous, followed closely by Tennessee and Kentucky.

Ohio drivers will not get out of the way. They’ll do maybe a 1/4 mile faster than the guy next to them.

I think Michigan drivers think they invented NASCAR. They’ll draft bumper to bumper six cars back, but never pass anybody. I think they’re all running restrictor plates. I’ll be rolling along US23 or M68 and be car number 7. We’ll be going somewhere between 5-15 under the 65mph speed limit and nobody will make a move. Except me. When there’s room in a passing zone and I can see clearly far enough ahead, I pull off the six car pass; in the minivan no less.

Then there’s Florida. We have all the drivers Georgia has, plus the midwesterners, Canadians, Texans, Californians, etc. You guys can complain all want about drivers with Florida plates, but chances are those assholes came from your state in the first place and you can have them back.

Who the heck uses the left lane for passing only? Nobody.
And what is this fascination with wanting to see K-9’s using an arm or a scrotum as a chew toy? Some of you guys are starting to worry me.
With that said I do believe that at those speeds, a lot of drivers just didn’t have time to move over safely. The rest, yeah probably oblivious. But I’m glad they got this moron before he ruined a bunch of lives.

Plain and simple, some people really and truly deserve to be chewed on and if you don't believe this is so, I'd say you are far too nice, and as a result, you risk winding up as a prime target for two-legged predators.

Well that is the law in many states. It makes it safer so people don’t have to zig zag through traffic to pass a car holding up the left (fast/passing) lane. So I would say that MANY people use the left lane for passing. Not sure what state you are from. Emergency vehicles especially depend on the left lane.

Nah, I can find it easy to turn my head when that driver bangs his head several times getting into the squad, or taking a few because of resisting. There’s just something unnerving about getting chewed on for longer than necessary when using dogs.

Chicago suburbs Stormin. I understand it’s a law in a lot of places, but with the volume around here, it’s not practical.

Chicago is the 3rd largest city. Houston is the 4th. That is the law in Houston.

It’s not only that the left lane cruisers feel special enough to hang out there, they generally love to cruise along in someone’s blind spot. They love being in the way when a car in the right lane approaches a slower vehicle. It gives them warm fuzzies like petting puppies.
Gotta love that the few left lane cruisers who did yield did so by moving……left.

Honestly I was taught different than you guys. Not about moving over for emergency vehicles, that is common sense AND the law in every state I’ve ever lived. You guys seem to think the left lane us for passing only. On freeways yes, on roads or even highways where there are left turns available no.

Nowhere that I have ever lived has there been a law or “common sense” law about driving in the right lane only on anything other than freeways. It doesn’t even make sense. On that video that road/divided highway/route/whatever there are multiple left turns onto crossing streets. There is no expectation of using the left lane as a passing lane only and no such law that I’ve ever heard of. Literally if there was you could beat every ticket by saying I was making a left. Freeways of course. That ain’t a freeway.

That video was appalling for lots of reasons all of which have been stated. I was actually surprised at the first couple PITs because he almost went head on into oncoming traffic a couple times. I never read, what did this guy do in the first place? Edited. I just saw the header, murder. Got it.

It is the law in Texas, mostly ignored. Drive between San Antonio and Austin on I35 if you bro not believe me.

This post should have been higher up on the list. I get people could always be more aware of their surroundings but expecting people to have an instantaneous reaction to what it behind you after seeing a truck go full dukes of hazard in front of you is a little much. You have a crazy truck pass you in the grass median on the left, the next second a police car is on your right side trying to squeeze pass but then cuts over back to the left.

The police were also running slick top cars with only interior visor light bars which are not as visible as roof mounted lights. There is also a point where you can out drive your siren and other vehicles will not hear you until you are right on top of them.
