I went with fluke 101 & 107 ($45 & $98).Due to this guy trying to kill them in his testing and safety. one for the truck/travel/huntcamp and one at home. If I need a clamp meter they have the i400 clamp that plugs into it for $50 on ebay. They are both easy to function, on the small side, and auto ranging. the 107 is slightly larger has a couple of more features and a back light

Good thread and something I need to learn. I have two cheap multimeters I got from somewhere and have only used them a couple of times ever. When I used them, I followed a video for the specific issue I was doing. Most recently to determine if an electrical current was going to the solenoid on my sprinkler valve from my sprinkler system control box when turned on to help troubleshoot my problem of the sprinkler zone not turning on.

I want to learn more about the device. About to watch the video apprentice posted.

I’m an electrical engineer. I use a fluke 87V at work and a Klein CL700 at home.

I've been in my ~25 y.o. house for ~17 years and this multimeter for $5.99 (with 9v battery!) from Harbor Freight did exactly what I needed it to do.

I'd be happy if I never have to use it again.

This, Harbor Freight meter will do what ever you need around the house or car.Plenty accurate for home use.

Even better are the ProbeMaster modular probes. You can have different "ends", such as test leads, alligator clips of different sizes, even a spade terminal.

Both of mine have been vary accurate compared to each other and to an older Klein I have.

I got the probemaster 8000 series with a screw on alligator clip. Makes life a lot easier when-trouble shooting automobile fuse box issues.

Because you're worried about them leaking? Or for some other multimeter-specific reason?

Newer lithium batteries don't leak like the old alkaline batteries will. So you can leave lithium batteries in seldom-used electronics. Those are all I buy these days.

I was referring mostly to leakage. A lot of the economical meters I’ve seen use AAA batteries or similar. I expect most get used a few times with the included batteries then put away only to be ruined by leakage.
