konata88Carplay for maps / nav
Still learning how to use the new car. It doesn't have Nav but it doesn have Carplay. Normally I use my phone for nav anyway but I'm not sure I should be putting the phone (mounted to the windshield in the lower left). Usually the mount location is okay but this car has side airbags and not sure if it's okay to put the phone there. Seems okay based on the air bag diagram in the manual but not sure....
Anyway, trying to figure out Carplay and hoping for some help (btw, I'm connecting via USB instead of bluetooth):
1) I got Maps to show up on the car display. But during navigation, I can't get the direction to always be up like I can on the phone. Is there a way to set this so that the direction of travel is always up during navigation? (I'm okay with North being up when not navigating).
2) How do I adjust the turn by turn direction volume? The car stereo was off and the stereo volume knob did nothing. The phone volume controls don't seem to do anything either. Is there a way to control volume?
3) Does the car save all your contact info, etc? It shows it while the phone is connected but not sure it saves the info locally even when the phone is disconnected. I'm still playing with it to find out but not sure. Tedious to have to delete personal data after each use.
4) Why do I need to turn on Siri? I usually keep Siri, Facetime, etc off. Why does Carplay require Siri?

BigNC1- yes. Touch the arrow or compass looking thing to toggle.
2- adjust while receiving instructions - like actually while work is talking
3- don't think so but never really thought about it.
4- for voice commands to with I think. Like with 3, I assume "they" know all my secrets so I stopped trying to hide. If I'm using nav, I can't hide anyway.
Ymmv.

konata88Thanks. I’ll try that out.
Although I have a more fundamental issue. My wife’s phone doesn’t show the map. Only grid lines. My phone shows a map. Her phone voices the turn by turn by there are only grid lines displayed.
In the end, probably just use the phone for nav since CarPlay seems to require a cable and doesn’t work over Bluetooth. The USB port will be used for music.
Tech. So close yet so far.

mkuefferPart of the requirement of the USB vs. Bluetooth is that BT does not support Video data rates. Great fro audio. The car display is actually a video from the phone.
