Arcs thread over in the rifle room about Richards unfinished stocks got me thinking about getting a couple of my rifle stocks hydrodipped.
I am looking at a specific pattern so hydrodipping would be the way to go.
I am concerned about it holding up though they are supposed to be automotive clear coated. Which concerns me that they may be too slick.
Anybody have first hand experience?

I had a bow, some accessories, and some trim in my truck dipped at Tarjac several years ago and everything held up great for as long as I had it. It's probably been 8 years or so since I had any done so I expect it's even better now. I watched the process at Mathews archery and it was very interesting.

I bought a Rem 700CS in the early nineties that had a hydrodip finish from the factory. I have found the finish to be extremely durable for nearly 25 years.

I haven't had anything done but a good friend of mine does it for a side job (he's a cop fulltime) and it's really neat and durable.

He's done anything from EMT Shears, to guns/stocks/grips, to Motorcycle parts.

He doesn't have a website but you can see some of his work if you search AMP'D Hydrographics on facebook.

I had an AR15 done in Atacs AU. I had the choice of gloss or a dull finish. They even had a grippy textured coating. It has been pretty durable for me.

I had my AICS dipped after I converted from thumbhole to pistol grip. The rear stock set was a different color green.

It was finished with a slightly grippy texture and has held up pretty well.
