As a Cop, now a Sgt, and in the "BT/DT" club, let me weigh this out...

Police Involved Shooting:
Mountains of paperwork, notifications to everyone and their mother, more paperwork, stress, headache, media, paperwork, 867 people who've never carried a gun now get to decide whether or not it's a "Good Shoot", waiting, stress, grief, paperwork...

Hitting dude with the car:
Car Accident report....

I think I'm changing my tactics.

Donut Operator put out a video covering multiple "accidents" involving people getting hit by police cars and the pussies at YouTube has it age restricted so embedding isn't something I can do:

Like the man says, it's amazing how brazen these people are trying to steal catalytic converters from moving police cars... Smile

Trauma as in seatbelt trauma?

So, how long until teenagers start claiming to “identify” as a different gender over 21, and demand IDs as such?

Well, there is that "velocity squared" thing.

Gun to the head war story:
I was sent on a call where a girl was reporting that a former boyfriend was beating on her door and she wanted him to leave, but he was refusing. It was my habit to park some distance away from anything going on and walk up to the location so I could better assess what was going on. I eased up to the front door and the boyfriend was beating on the door. Minor detail the girl failed to tell dispatch was that the man had a .22 rifle in hand! His back was to me.
It then went like this:
Me: Police! Dont move! (While I was pointing a 686 Smith at him)
He began to slowly turn while holding the gun out away from him, muzzle up, in one hand. When fully facing me, he said:
Go ahead and shoot me!
Me: No!
BF: Then I will shoot myself!
And he swung the gun up under his chin and pulled the trigger. He then got a really stunned look on his face and froze in place. I took the gun away from him, had him sit down and called for EMS.
Turns out the bullet passed between his teeth and tongue, passed up through his sinus, missed his eye and exited the top of his head. He was, as bullet wounds go, very lightly injured. After recovery, he was charged with Domestic Violence which was later dismissed because the girl refused to prosecute.
The rest of the story:
About 6 months later, I was doing a bar check and there he was, sitting at the bar drinking a beer.
I asked him how he was doing and he said he was doing fine. He shook hands with me and said "thanks for not shooting me. I was in a really bad way when that happened". I said "no thanks needed".
By the way, I was roundly criticized for not shooting the dude when he began to turn towards me. At the time, I just did not feel he was a threat to me. One of those "you just had to be there" kind of things!

Towards the end of my career in law enforcement, if an officer was involved in an incident that resulted in psychological trauma, he/she got anywhere from 14 to 30 days paid time off. SOP was to see the shrink, snivel and whine a bit, then go home and drink beer. At the 14 day follow up, snivel and whine a bit more. As previously stated, often your fellow officers will bring you the beer.

Not really. KE = 0.5 * M * V^2

115 grain Speer Gold Dot at 1143 ft/s has 451J of kinetic energy

Ford Explorer at 30 mph has 174,792J of kinetic energy. For a Ford Explorer's kinetic energy to be equal to a Speer Gold Dot it would have to be traveling 1.5 mph. The Explorer was traveling much faster than that.
