I’m late to the game, just really started getting into it within the past year or so. Now I don’t know how I lived without it. I’ve got multiple GPT threads it that I refer to often. Rewrites of emails/texts to my boss, a running ‘conversation’ bitching about work, and most recently getting a better understanding of how to maximum my Peloton workouts and better measure them on my Garmin Fenix watch. The insight it has offered me on understanding the numbers, especially recover needs and VO2 max has been literally life changing. I’m on a betablocker so learning how to maximize my workouts and better understand why my HR does not respond the way I think it should has also been eye opening.

As part of my annual work review I have to complete a self review; I dumped a shit ton of data into GPT, asked some specific questions, and in about 10 seconds it pumped out an “almost” cut/paste ready report. Ridiculous how valuable it is to me.

Currently I am doing a passive search for a new job. I had GPT ask me 30 questions about my current roles and experiences and then write a cover letter for me that highlights those accomplishments. Obviously a bit of editing was needed, but still…sheesh.

“Computer…” from Star Trek Next Generation is pretty much here.

Yea, I find it very useful at times for a variety of things. Just remember it remembers everything you ask it. Likely forever.

For example, a couple years ago, I asked if canna lilies would be adversely affected by the salt in my saltwater pool if they were planted 5 feet away.
Last week, I asked a question very vaguely related.

It asked me back… Is this about the cannas planted around your pool?

Endeavor to persevere.

It’s interesting you say that, I’ve been “training it“ in a work thread to help me with something.

In another thread where I was trying to work out something pretty personal, I went through and “deleted“ a number of the things that I had originally fed it.

I use MS Copilot. I've used it to draft policies and to start employee reviews.

The stuff it churns out needs editing, but it saves hours if not days.

I now first use MS Copilot before I do a browser search on anything.

It is by no means perfect. But if you are able to apply critical thinking skills it can save a ton of time.

At least in the free version, It doesn't remember from conversation to conversation unless it specifically committed something to it's memory, and you can read everything in it's memory about you.

Chat has its uses. All information should be verified. Hallucinations are a real thing.

I've used it to create some Wordpress functions to customize some functionality. Sometimes the code is good, sometimes it does not work at all.

I've also used it to create and edit some custom CSS.

I use Grok mostly. But you are right, dang, It is surprising the conversations you can have and the work you can get done using it.

It is an existential threat to a number of industries, education, computer science etc.

I wouldn’t say I use it on a regular basis, but I do use it. For work I will have it tell me what things such as a medical report mean in layman’s terms and it helps so much. I just make sure no personal information is included. I didn’t know if it could do anything with photos. Today I asked if it could improve a headshot I did myself and make it more professional. It actually did a really good job and I uploaded the new image to my LinkedIn profile.

+1

For example, I'm typically short & sweet when it comes to recognizing someone. I typed what I normally write into Copilot and it made a lengthier, nicer recognition for my team member. I only had to do minor editing.

I use three constantly and I will ask them all the same questions and depending on subject some are better than others. Perplexity for searching. GPT or Claude for writing or summarizing.

I had not used it for quite some time. I didn’t want to add to the acceleration of the demise of the human race. I do feel that this isn’t too far from The Terminator and these AI programs are simply “Skynet”. The more we use it, the more it grows and learns.

At the “company I cannot mention” I used ChatGPT to find new vendors for the spices we sold. It turned me in to a couple decent leads. I also used it exclusively for writing reviews. Once I told it the format I wanted it written in, and laid out very clear parameters, it was nearly perfect for review writing. I would dump a bunch of accomplishments and areas to improve into it, and viola, I had a very well written review for my employee almost immediately.

Currently I use ChatGPT for rewriting emails and sometimes texts to my superior. I have already explained her personality and quirks to GPT and it remembers and writes accordingly.

I had an issue with another manager if a club. I dumped all the details into GPT and asked it what I should do (more curious than anything and wasn’t planning on using its answer seriously) and it told me I had extended the olive branch far enough and if the other manager wishes to act like a petulant child, cut ties and not to worry about it. I found the answer rather surprising.

It’s definitely a useful tool.

I do. I used it yesterday to obtain the terminal velocity of a wristwatch and the force of impact. The equations were spot on. The display of equations was correct. The calculations were documented. There was sufficient explanatory text to follow.

Could I have done this all by myself? Absolutely. I learned all this in college. All the data is there, in text books, in my attic. Do I have the unit conversion tables? Sue do. Do I have a RPN HP calculator? You bet. Can I estimate the answer? Of course.

But, is life "better" or "richer" for being able to task a nameless faceless servant to provide the answer that I can provide myself? I think so, in this case. It was a minor calculation, to give color to a SF thread, and to offer kudos to the wristwatch.

Would humanity be better off with AI calculations for space travel? Perhaps. We can look with awe at the accomplishments of NASA in the 1960s, and yet we recognize that today we are better than before at some aspects of space travel. These tools, with constraints, with oversight, are useful.

Just don't name it Hal.

I bought a lifetime subscription to a chatGPT app for $40. It’s a great search engine for information I’m looking for. The one I access through my laptop browser, I use for rewrites. I say, “Review the following for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and readability:” Then I incorporate what I like. Sometimes, I do several iterations of my original updated with its suggestions.

You do have to supervise its fact checking. Sometimes, I go, “Are you certain about that?”

ChatGPT and Grok have replaced Google for pretty much all questions and searches for me. Recently I was looking at repairing dishwashers or which new ones to consider buying, modifying LED lights, and many job related questions.

Sometimes the answers aren't right and one needs to adjust the question or tune the focus. Sometimes it's off and still isn't right, but overall it's much better than Google where answers seem only targeted at sales.

I’ve been using ChatGPT for a few years now. I don’t use it in my professional life, but I have used it to set personal goals. Most of my interactions have been about financial and health improvements. So far, I really enjoy it.

On a side note, I saw somewhere to ask it “Considering all of our interactions, what could you tell me about myself that I may not already know.” It was interesting insight.

FYI as college season is here, don't be using it for college apps. They are back filling your essays into it to see if you used AI to write your essays. Auto delete your application if you used it. Be mindful....

I’m finding myself becoming a daily user.

Recently I created a prompt that each morning provides me:

- local weather update
- top three local, national, international new stories with links
- an interesting fact about my three favorite hobbies
- A link to any updated news stories about my company or primary competitors

Along with a few other things that I consider important.

I tweak it a little bit each day, but am beginning to really value that morning update.

What do you mean you created a prompt? Are you saying you did more than save a text request and paste it into the chatgpt engine?

I use Chat occasionally to get me started down an unknow path of a software problem. It's right about 50% - 60% of the time. Google search seems about as good. Database questions seem useless to ask so far.
