Prayers sent! I know what you mean about last conversations; I talked to my brother on a Monday, and by Wednesday he was gone. Wish I had a lot of "do overs" with him, but it was too late...

Done. Sad story... sometimes we play hard, not realizing the danger.
My condolences and best wishes for your family.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I hope you will all indulge me a little but I would like to update and add to my original post. When I first posted I really hadn't had time to process this.

First, my wife has gone to Arizona to help her sister. My sister in law has decided to keep the trailer there for now. She has a network of friends to help her. If she comes home it will be to an empty house.

I looked at Rob's facebook page the other day. about half of it was Bible readings. The other half was pictures of them in the desert with their friends. Looking at that did give me some comfort. He died doing something he loved.

When I first heard the news here is what came to mind. In 1997 Rob's oldest son Brett was in the Marines. He was stationed in California. He was in some sort of training in the desert. After the drill was over most of Brett's unit stayed in place but he wanted to get back to base. He hitched a ride on a transport(I can't remember what kind) The transport ended up rolling, killing Brett but leaving the driver hurt but alive, exactly what happened to Rob. And in the same state.

Last thing, I've seen more than one thread here about "bury the body friends". I am the last person to ask anyone for help. Unfortunately I had to ask others for help(no, it wasn't illegal). The two people I first approached did not help me. Rob never hesitated. I had thought of all of these guys as brothers but when the shit hit the fan only one stepped up. I'll never forget that.

Again thanks for listening and giving us a place to talk.

Jim

Compared to many, they were living what seems like a healthy and fulfilling retirement life. He was really enjoying life, and many other cannot make that boast. The point being, he didn't just slump over on a couch. That he died essentially while having fun, that's not such a bad thing. For me, this is something in itself.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11

...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]
