I believe in the principle of Due Process |
"Not through dangerous convulsions, not through conflict, regicide, and useless crimes, can the wounds of the nation be healed. These violent remedies are always more cruel than the evils they are intended to cure.… The voice of reason is neither seditious nor bloodthirsty. The reforms which it proposes may be slow, but therefore all the better planned." -- Jean-Jacques Rousseau Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Please don't take this personally, as I am sure you won't. The words sound fine, but Rousseau is just behind Stalin as a moral authority. Recommend reading Paul Johnson's Intellectuals. From the blurb on Amazon.com:
These mental "giants" were all monsters of morality. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

You can be sure that I don't take it personally. I don't quote it necessarily for morality. He's a philosopher. Those guys go all over the place. What about Paul Johnson makes him an authority on morality? I've not heard of him that I recall. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.
