Delta faucet stem cartridge repair question
Hey guys,
Just spent the money to replace 2 leaking faucet handles, $30 each for replacement stem cartridges. Really chaps my ass to pay for that when all they need is a replacement o-ring to repair them. The valve seats are cheap, but there is no listed part for the o-ring for the stems. Try as I might, I cannot find anything indicating the proper size o-ring or where to source them for Delta RP24096 stem cartridges. Would like to get some to have on hand as I have to do this to one faucet or another in the house at least once a year. Anyone else have this problem or know a solution? Thanks!

Unfortunately this seems to be the standard now with Delta. I used to think highly of the brand but with our new bathroom addition I went with Moen based on reviews and the contractor’s recommendation. It’s very frustrating to say the least.

I was unable to remove the stems from the 5 Delta faucets in my townhome. The stems were frozen solid & no amount of vinegar could remove the calcium deposits. The stems had plastic nuts which tore apart. I replaced all the faucets with Moen.

I am all Moen. Been getting free replacement parts for 20 years now.

To my surprise Moen bought WasteKing. My unit went bad and come to find out my model was no longer sold as life time replacement but after some discussion mine was bought several months before the change so the free replacement was honored and a note was put into my file for future replacements as well.

As for your needs for o-rings just buy a good o-ring assortment and the needed size should be in it. They can be handy to have for other o-ring needs.

I have two sets. One is a high dollar set I bought from McMaster-Carr when I was doing heavy equipment repair and another set of cheaper but good one from Harbor Freight or similar type store. For most stuff I goto the cheaper set but if its something that really counts of requires major dis-assembly I go for the good ones.

Moen for me here as well. A month ago a short phone call and 3 days brought me a brand new cartridge free of charge. Just be sure to keep the label with the model number and date of mfg.

Look for the O-ring kit.

Before retiring, I was a supplier to a bunch of Ace Hardware stores. When I needed a new kitchen faucet, the owner of one of those Ace stores advised me to buy a Delta faucet because lifetime warranty, so I bought it from him.

That was fifteen or twenty years ago. Each time I needed a repair part, I communicated with Delta's Customer Support group. They would identify the part(s) needed to take care of the problem, and send them to me at no charge. Everything from O-rings to the detergent dispenser assembly. Never a problem getting them to send what I needed, never a charge for any of it.

Like V-tail, I have had incredible support from Delta CS. My 23 year old faucet aeorator broke. I couldn’t find a part list anywhere. I dropped them an email after fruitlessly scouring their web site.
They got back to me in a day and asked for some photos of my set, which I uploaded to them. They found the right part and during our conversation I mentioned one of the cartridges was developing a slight leak.
They sent me all the parts (including 2 new stems) for free. No shipping costs either. All part of their lifetime warranty.
I am mighty impressed.

Delta has sent me many parts under warranty. Easy. Kind. Helpful.
