Looking for an electric skillet ... Login/Join

Wife and I have been researching for a new electric skillet and not having much luck find what we like or does not have bad reviews.

Told her I would reach out to you all as this is a knowledgeable group.

Tired of electric skillets where the coating starts flaking off. The last one lasted four months. The company declined the warranty stating that we used metal utensils and caused the damage. Not true as we only use wood, silicone or plastic utensils. Obviously, this is their party line to deny.

Looking for the typical 12" x 12" rectangle or may consider as large as 12" x 15".

What do you all like and recommend.

Thanks

Good point ... ! Did not think of this. Heck, this old dino is old school.

Great idea, thanks.

Just curious, is there a model number or something like that on your skillet ?

Thank you sir. The problem I see is that my wife does not want aluminum as it leaches into the food. Dang.

Appreciate the information ... just need to find something else.

I came across this.
Appears to be all stainless.
No idea about the quality or the country of origin.

I have had this one for over 6 months now and it gets used every morning for pancakes, eggs sausage, grilled cheese and other yummy things. It has held up really well and would recommend it.

Timely posts. I have a 12x12 Oster that is lightly used, but the hold-back is it's too large to wash in the sink easily. I'm hoping to find an 8x8 of good quality.

I've been cooking bacon in this thing for 30 years. Do you think I have enough aluminum content by now that I'm ready for the recyling bin?

Recycle yes ... but if need to repair your body parts then will need to TIG weld and not MIG or Stick weld. Smile

This is a good topic, thanks for posting.

I've been wanting a new nonstick electric skillet too, but all I seem to find is the crappy chinamart crap that flakes off quickly.

I was just figuring I'd better change my search to a stainless steel electric skillet and just cook on it to get some carbon built up.

Please let us know what you end up doing.

Why is a good skillet and your stove not an option? Just curious, no criticism intended.

Might have to do with temperature control. I think electric skillets use a thermostat to maintain a semi-consistent temperature the same way electric griddles do.

If it is the temperature control that is the issue, but the ideal electric skillet can’t be found, one possibility would be a countertop induction burner that offers temperature control along with whatever induction-compatible normal skillet appeals.

One benefit of this approach would be that if you wanted nonstick, when the nonstick wore out, you could just buy any random new skillet you liked.

That was my first thought also. A countertop induction burner offers very good temperature control and allows use with multiple pieces of cookwear

Personally for us ... we have a disabled adult daughter who is able to cook for herself and the electric skillet is easier for her to use rather than a pan on the gas stove.
