The "Dead" coming was a big deal even then.

Nekkid boys and girls and what not. Drugs all around. I was a bit young for all of it. But do remember a lot about it. Turned into the much tamer Oregon country fair a few years later. Pretty much all the fun was gone.

And, in no way is this post meant to disrespect those who took a different road and served their country at this time when many of these losers were doing their thing. I just found this video and it reminded me of a part of my childhood.

I saw a Pampers TV Commercial and the soundtrack was "Born to be Wild". Since I figured I might be wearing diapers in my old age, it was comforting to know the music of my youth would be right there with me!

A good book chronicling those times is The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, by Tom Wolfe. The Grateful Dead was just coming into being and played at the "parties" (Acid Tests).

I got to spend a few hours sipping cocktails and shooting the breeze with Gerry and the boys in the mid 80"s.

All I can say is he was just a regular guy.

He also was nice enough to hook us up with 6th row center stage tickets for the concert the following night.:-)

The night after that was filled with SRV at another concert.
What a weekend !!!

The Grateful Dead channel is the 2nd most played channel on my Sirius XM.
I am too young to have gotten to see them but started listening in High School.
If I could pick a group to bring back to see live.
They would certainly be it.

When in the Navy, me and a buddy went to see them in Irvine around 1988. Nakedness and acid a plenty. Well, as my buddy found out, it's probably best not to mention no drugs because of the Navy

But, the girl next to free acid guy did have some tea for my buddy and was kind enough to put a sugar cube in.

Not sure who had more fun that night, my buddy or me watching and guiding him.

I saw them in Louisville 1968. They played in the Bellarmine College gym, now Knight's Hall, to a crowd of maybe 5-600.

I was always the designated driver for my friends who were in no shape to do so from various substances. Early on they started buying me a ticket so transportation wasn’t an issue

The renaissance fair video being a benefit for a creamery I do not recall that. I kind of doubt that but who knows, what creamery?

Bird Song is one of my favorite pieces by the Dead.

I think Truckin' is the only song I've ever heard by the Dead.
