At precisely 0330 this morning I entered the gym at work and stepped onto a treadmill, set my ipad up on the top of the panel and began watching Gladiator 2 as I started my walk.

In just a few short moments I again became annoyed with all the wasted space on the screen due to the 2.39:1 aspect ratio of the film.

This isn't an aspect ratio complaint, not at all. I like the wide screen and anamorphic widescreen just fine. I want to see it as intended.

I'd just like someone to make a "handheld" video streaming device, like a tablet, with the intended use being video/movie streaming. I want the aspect ratio of the native screen to match the common aspect ratio used in cinema, again, 2.39:1. Or that is what Google tells me it is.

I don't need a ton of apps, just the video streaming services plus a native media playing app and the ability to insert a micro sd flash drive. Thats it.

2.39:1 screen, micro sd reader, streaming apps. Thats it. For instance, a matching screen would be roughly 5 inches tall and 12 inches wide. That sounds pretty spot on to me.

A great idea, but getting screens made in that aspect ratio would never work. My, and a huge swath of users preferred screen aspect ratio for computers 16:10 couldn't even survive the 16:9 domination.

Go on eBay or Amazon and find a Sony Xperia 1 or 5. They're Android smart phones in 21:9 with microSD cards and even a headphone jack.

I'd settle for a 16:9 device... I realize a wider aspect ratio would not be as popular, but I am a little surprised at 16:9 one hasn't been made. Perhaps someone other than Apple has made one, I haven't looked. However, I wouldn't even want/need something as powerful as an ipad... the device I have in mind wouldn't be for multitasking as the wide screen wouldn't be ideal for that anyway. It's power could be scaled down sufficient to stream the video.

Ultimately, I'd love something at least 1.85:1 or wider (Cinema, Cinema scope, or anamorphic)

Hmmm... something like this, but with built in streaming capability:

1920*720 screen

One could probably plug a Roku Streaming Stick into it but who knows how that would actually work out. It would likely just display in letterbox, 16:9 mode. ASUS makes a similar screen at a much higher price.

There's multiple Android tablets in 16:10.
