Lead slingin' Parrot Head |
*Spoiler alert* No guns were drawn, no physical force was displayed during the stop, and no one got cuffed. Calm attitudes, clear explanations and instructions, compliance with instructions, and even a couple joking quips prevailed and made this a safe stop. I do question the instructor's decision to transport loaded NFA weapons in a vehicle with unregistered tags, while driving with a balaclava covering his face, outside his state of residence but, not knowing the circumstances or, perhaps, if they were part of his defense strategy while transporting them, I won't fault him... and, at the end of the day, everyone went home safe. If I was driving through Baltimore I'd probably want some loaded full autos handy too. I'm posting this mostly just as an example of how, when possibly stressful police encounters are handled with a calm attitude and good communication and clear instructions, there is a better chance of good outcomes. Also, we occasionally hear about a driver being disarmed during a traffic stop, but I thought it was interesting to see an actual instance recorded. Note that this You Tuber states that he is not a lawyer but, at least to me, he appears to have done good research on the relevant statutes in this stop. Some of his comments suggest that he is not experienced or knowledgeable about firearms though. @ 16 minute https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nHjtNfiwrkg

I have bought and transported estates from the Baltimore area, and driven thru the state a few times with a van load of firearms, drive safely drive at the speed limit or at the speed the traffic is moving, and no issues, seems this may be a bit of drama BTW, as long as he has his Fed paperwork (you have to file and get permission to transport a NFA out of your state) he should be OK, and apparently was, but why transport a NFA in the trunk loaded,,, https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

By loaded, what does that mean? Simply a loaded mag or does it mean one in the chamber? If it's just a full mag inserted, I don't see a problem. It’s been a while and I could be wrong currently but in MD it used my to be ANY ammo loaded into a mag, speed loader, speed strip etc. constituted a “Loaded” firearm 1 round in a Glock 17 mag, no Glock 17 for miles…loaded firearm. I assume like with many things in life officer discretion goes a long way but MD has always had some extremely strict transport laws. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

Well! That was a hoot. Thank you for posting for this Baltomoron to be able to view. Amazing how complicated issues can get calmly worked out when you comply and aren’t high.
