Ordered one of these Bell Scout Air helmets as a test and middle ground between no helmet and full face motorcycle helmet. I’m excited to see how the airflow is. We spend most of the time at less than 20mph and it’s hot without a helmet but a tip over or collision is still a possibility.

I’ll also be adding a full harness for each seat.

I am not as good as I should be about wearing a helmet on our RZR in the summer. Most of the trails are pretty smooth and flat around here, but if I were doing a lot of climbing I probably would.

It sure would be nice to have a hot weather option that actually provided some airflow at the lower speeds involved.

I'm all for good helmets, air flow or not. Years ago, I used to ride dirt bikes and a souped up Honda ATC. I always wore a helmet, but decided to buy the latest, greatest, Bell helmet before a another trip to the "Dunes" in California. I was riding my ATC, following others slowly around the knife edged rim of a large dune, at what was probably less then 5 MPH. I have no memory of how it happened, but I woke up a few minutes later about half way down the outer side of the dune, with other riders around me asking if I was OK. I saw my ATC overturned, coated with sand, closer to the bottom of the dune. My new helmet, as opposed to my head, had a large gouge in it that could only have been the result of hitting a rock as I tumbled down the dune.I don't recall what I paid for that helmet, but at the time it seemed expensive. Afterwards, I sure considered it money well spent.....

That looks like a lightweight helmet.

I have about 6 helmets. I bought two new helmets from Rocky mt a couple years ago.
If you ride on govt property, you have to wear a helmet.
We have a Polaris Razor 4 800.

Is your Polaris a slingshot? I’ve looked at them but not yet owning one I always assumed I’d go helmet-less in one unless I crossed the state line. I always wore a helmet when on two wheels, but the slingshot appears more car than motorcycle (despite how it’s classified by the DOT).

I think open face is definitely the way to go with the slingshot. You don’t really have the risk of scraping your chin down the road like you do on two wheels.

Edit... just looked up side by side and see what you have. I still think an open face helmet would be fine.

Something passed in the 2 years since I retired? There was no federal CFR mandating helmets. Some states (like Utah) have passed OHV helmet legislation.

In a m/c wreck 42% of head impacts are the jaw. The study did not differentiate between 2 or 3 wheels.

If you've got a 10 dollar head, get a 10 dollar helmet.

We went to the National Forest and were told no helmet= a fine. That was Wayne NF. That was last summer.

We rode in Utah, but not on Govt land.
We just figured it was all government land??

Does the registration call it a motorcycle ? I have a friend that says it's a car on registration.

No helmets required here for over 18yrs old.

Got the helmets today and they are super light, feels like my old bicycle helmet. Coverage on the ears is a little snug to putting it on but comfortable for the little bit I wore it. I’m very excited to test wear it on a ride. Probably half the weight of my off road Arai that I loved.

Not a lot of coverage on the low back of the head compared to the same Arai and naturally no face or jaw protection. I’m not too worried about that with the seat belts and cage but wanted to protect against a roll cage head hit and cover the ears. With a good set of glasses or goggles I think it will be just right.
