frayedendsDarksky is gone, so what do we like for weather apps?
Woke up to find out Darksky is no longer functioning. Turns out Apple discontinued the app starting today.
Is the regular Weather app on the phone the best alternative or are there others you like?
These go to eleven.

joel9507My son turned me onto Weather Bug this week, and it's as good if not better than my old favorite, AccuWeather.
Running mine on Android but both have iPhone/iPad versions.

Resistance was futile?
Anyhow, I am averse to using Weather Bug because years ago it seemed that, on a PC, the weatherbug site caused all kinds of issues, viruses etc. But people do seem to like it now.

220-9erAccuWeather is decent but I still would have preferred Dark Sky.
They claim that their standard weather app will incorporate the Dark Sky features but what I’ve seen so far isn’t close.
Hopefully that will change with the new year too.

joatmonvI have NOAA on my phone and it works pretty good.
Forecasts are pretty accurate and the radar is good also.
I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

NavyGuyI really liked Darksky for it's simplicity while still providing all the weather functionality I needed on a daily basis. Well, it's gone. I suppose everything available on DS, is now in the Apple built in weather app. I don't like the interface as well, but I'll adjust. At least it's free.

ewillsI like weawow on my Android phone. You can choose your weather provider. I have my set to Darksky. Just checked, and still set that way today.

steve495Try Carrot Weather. They put a bit of fun into the application. Enough so that I bought the paid version of the app.
https://www.meetcarrot.com/weather/They act as an aggregator, and you can select from different weather sources. ...
What weather data sources does CARROT use?
By default, CARROT's forecasts are powered by Foreca, one of the world’s most accurate weather services.
Premium Club members can also use Apple Weather, AccuWeather, ClimaCell, MeteoGroup, or AerisWeather as alternate data sources. Region-specific sources are available as well: Environment Canada in Canada and WillyWeather in Australia.
Subscribers can also hook into data pulled from personal weather stations right in their backyard. WeatherFlow/Tempest and Netatmo stations are directly supported, while any station that connects to PWSweather can be displayed in CARROT as well.

VictimNoMoreVentusky is, hands down, the best for my uses (every day use, general aviation, UAV flying).
The graphical interface just works beautifully.
It is a paid app.

It shows as free but with in app purchases. What do you need to pay for with this app?

Ronin1069DarkSky has been merged into the current Apple default weather app. Most of the functions are still there, but it is not nearly as easy to navigate.
I’m very bummed about that.

Yes, it's no where as easy to navigate for me. They also bombard you with ads unless you purchase the upgrade version and it's a much more expensive monthly fee.
They seem to have purchased Dark Sky and kept it operational for a while so they could close out a competitor.
I'd have less of a problem with them if the simply raised the price for Dark Sky but to now offer an inferior product for a lot more while closing down the original really sucks.

220-9erI looked at the default Weather app in IOS16 as that's what they said would replace Dark Sky.
If there is another version they are talking about that's like Dark Sky, I'd like to try that.
Update: I looked it up and they have something called Weatherkit. As you go through the first screens, it tries to steer me to something called Weatherkit Pro, $1.49 a month, $19.99 a year or $59.99 one time.
For now I'll stick with AccuWeather until there's more reviews and information. Not quite as good as Dark Sky but the closest I've found.
