If one uses Apple CarPlay is any data or information stored/left in the vehicle’s computers? In particular if I plug my iPhone into a 2020 Chevy Tahoe once I unplug my phone is anything left behind or stored on the Tahoe? App passwords, texts, contacts, GPS destinations, anything? ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. When syncing the iPhone, the following are trf'd and stored on use ... Contacts (phone) Maps and addresses (Waze, Google maps) Other to be aware of to scrub: - Apps installed to the vehicle system, that can store login/password, and personal data - Garage door codes - Digital subscriptions, such as SiriusXM. --chris We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid." ~ Benjamin Franklin. If it were of national security interest, I don't know if the radio could be combed for info. If you get out of the car and I get in, I can't see any of your data, history, etc.

CarPlay does not exchange user data with the car computer. It only uses the display. Maybe the phone name/UID may be stored to know last connection. That is unlike other technology like Bluetooth where it wants to sync your contacts into the car computer. A few Sigs and some others

It will also ask you if you want to sync contacts with the headunit. Just say select no. Then when you are done with the car, delete the blue tooth connection you have made. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

No Bluetooth connection used. Just wired USB. I tried it today and man does it suck! The interface is slow as molasses. Only a couple of the Audio apps work natively and their layout is terrible. AmazonMusic took about 10 minutes for me to be able to scroll through all the songs in a playlist. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Does the Tahoe have upgradeable software? My Land Rover Discovery's original late 2018 software was garbage with Android auto--only used a square portion of the screen and was quite buggy. I stopped using it. Later, the car's software was updated. Android Auto now takes up the whole widescreen and works smoothly as intended (including Google's awesome Assistant features). Upgrading to a quality USB C cable also resolved a problem with Android Auto failing to launch when plugged in.

Don’t have a clue. Using a genuine Apple lightning cable. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

My quick googling indicates that most Chevy infotainment systems 2019 and newer have over-the-air updates available while connected to internet. Perhaps access the settings menu and confirm software version number, and initiate an over-the -air update through wifi (or wireless hotspot) if out of date?

Wow. Worked flawlessly in my last Ford (Sync 3) and works perfect in my Ridgeline although I’m using a Pioneer headunit, that is wireless CarPlay. Shit just works, simple too. I guess their version just sucks. When you get done you can factory reset the headunit. That will clear all the shit out. It’ll be in the settings menu. What am I doing? Question on CarPlay: My wife has a 2019 RAV4 with CarPlay. In order to use it, she must connect her iPhone to the car with a USB-to-Lightning cable, the standard cable for these phones. Here's the question: Are there any vehicles that offer a wireless connection to us all the capabilities of Apple CarPlay? הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Yes. You can also buy a USB dongle to make CarPlay wireless for those that aren’t the good dongles are like $120. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Some radios feature wireless CarPlay. I don't know about the dongles that Black mentioned, so can't comment. BUT, I don't really understand the desire for wireless, as being plugged in charges your phone as well, and I've almost never seen someone not have a charger for their phone. It would make sense if you had a wireless charging pad-then you could simply lay the phone down and not worry about any cables.

I am a short trip guy so I hate having to take the phone in and out of my pocket to plug it in. The CarLinkIt kits get the best reviews. There are different models for certain year and models. This is just one example. Longer trips where I would be in the car for a while, plugged in and charging, you are correct. Shorter errand-run days, with a lot of stops, a lot of in and out of the car with short intervals of driving between stops, a wireless connection would be way better than having to plug and unplug at each stop. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

My Ford and my Subaru do carplay on bluetooth. Its very handy for at least the phone usage. get in the car, they sync and now calls are on the car speakers and mic and displayed on the center screen. don't take it out of my pocket. I can't image someone designing it to use only the USB connection. Some applications don't work on bluetooth for reasons I haven't really investigated but the phone works mint. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

That is not CarPlay; that is simply Bluetooth phone calls. CarPlay allows the use onscreen of maps and messages from your phone, as well as Apple's interface for numerous other apps, mostly music apps. To my knowledge, CarPlay when wireless, operates over WiFi, not bluetooth.

This is exactly what I do. In my center console in the truck I have a wireless charging pad. I get in, put the phone on the charger, close the console and I’m done with the stupid phone until I’m back home. Shorter trips I don’t even bother. I hate dicking with the phone. Plugging it in, unplugging it, plugging it back in. I’ve got news for folks too....Apple is not going to keep the charging port on the phone for much longer. There are rumors the 13 won’t have a charging port any longer. Wireless only. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Doesn't save info. My daughter's Subaru has it as wired and it takes a second to load, but once it's loaded, everything works fine. My BMW is all wireless and after connecting, it works fine. One time I didn't have it connected and as I drove past my daughter's car, her phone connected to my car. oops Not minority enough!

I am not sure what are you talking about. It uploads the phone contacts and displays them allowing outbound verbal dialing by name, it allows you to use the contacts to dial via the touch screen, it shows the names on incoming and reads messages, it shows recent calls, etc. etc. all within the same UI as carplay. Why would you think its not using carplay? I have older vehicles with simple bluetooth to the speaker and mic, that is not this. Your not correct. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”
