Grew up in rural central Alabama. Was running the woods down behind the house from the time I was 6. Saw a lot of snakes. Never liked them and never messed with them. I swear I could sense a snake ... maybe smell them. Only ever saw one Coral. Was biking several miles from home and spotted the Coral down by a creek. Luckily it was some distance away. Beautiful creature.

Several years ago, right behind my current home, had a dog that got bit by a Copperhead. Dog was "drifting" and I was concerned enough to get him to the E-vet. Doc said there are two types of antivenin available. One antivenin was for all North American venomous snakes except one. The other antivenin was for Coral snakes. He said the usual protocol for treating humans with antivenin was to administer until swelling goes down, however much that takes. I could only afford to give my dog one 10ml vial of antivenin @ $850 a pop at the time. Two days later all swelling was gone and the dog was completely back to normal.
