I'm watching a CBS (KHOU 11) reporter likely save a truck driver's life. Truck driver drove the wrong way down a feeder road, and was stuck in over 10' of water. A truck with a boat driving by was flagged down by the reporter and they're rescuing the driver. A year ago a truck driver drowned in the same location.

BTW, KHOU 11 has 2' of water in the building and they're evacuating. She is the lone reporter.

Do any of the locals in Texas/Houston know anything about the conditions or flooding toward the area of Ellington Airport, Space Center, Bay Oaks Country Club?

My parent are still dry and have power east of Cleveland but they are cut off. All the roads out are flooded and Brookshire Brothers (grocery store) in Cleveland has 1/2' of water inside. My parents are in their 70's and have my 92 year old grandmother....I hope like hell they don't get sick or injured as they are trapped. Tried like hell to talk them into getting out of there on Friday, damnit!

You are talking about the 4th largest city in the country. The entire effected region probably 10 million plus people. That's not an easy call to make and where do they go? It's a bad situation and the rain is perhaps only half over. This could continue through the middle of the week.

Ramius, I'll give you two reasons:

Hurricane Rita - It was only a few weeks after Katrina and was an even bigger storm in the GoM. Massive hype and panic lead to unnecessary evacuation gridlocked the freeway. My previous location in the Heights to my current location in N Houston is a 40 minute drive. It took 13 hours and 3/4 tank of gas to get to my buddy's house. Thousands of broken down or out of gas vehicles on highway, and people with medical issues were having heart attacks, strokes, etc. while evacuating. Even had a bus full of seniors die because of an oxygen tank explosion. The only reason I evacuated is I had been living out of a suitcase camping out in my new house, and the movers were supposed to deliver my household goods the day I evacuated. Since I didn't have a fridge, I couldn't buy more ice or food for my cooler.

Hurricane Ike - After Rita, myself and others said never again as far as evacuation. During the 2.5 year, I had built up quite a hurricane kit and could shelter in place safely. However, people that should have evacuated (including those with mandatory evacuation orders) did not. That lead to a lot of loss of life in Galveston and Bolivar peninsula, and put the lives of first responders in jeopardy.

We have very good flood maps in Houston that are updated frequently. Sane people are well stocked June to Halloween for sheltering in place or they know ahead of time they need to evacuate.

I think part of Pasadena saw 15" of rain in 30 minutes (according to an interview with the Harris County Flood District PAO). Haven't verified that elsewhere. But parts of Pasadena are pretty bad. A lot of the streets were underwater and impassable earlier but (at least just south of there) seem to be getting a bit better. The area around the Beltway and Beamer was slammed pretty hard, and that's not too far from EFD.

My cousin lives in Bay Oak's which is a very nice neighborhood and from Facebook I am reading she has water in her house.

No drainage issues here at home.

This is different than an eastern seaboard hurricane. They break to the north east and move out of the way.

Seeing this dump so much rain then move above those areas and dump more rain onto the flood plain is brutal.

If any SF members need a place to go, I have a spare bedroom/bathroom for free here in SE Arizona. It's about a 14 hr drive, stay as long as you need.

I feel for those experiencing flooding in their homes or neighborhoods.

I know it can be overwhelming but the present is not the future. Hope and wish that the future is only hours away and not days as forecasted.

Newest NOAA forecast has it back closer to the original track. Looks like just east of the metro area on Wednesday. Houston has another 72 hours of what they are getting now ahead of them. Allison flood levels have already been exceeded in some places. This is as going to be as bad as the worst projections.

Two neighbors and I just spent 90 minutes installing weirs and digging erosion from the curb at a construction site across the street. They didn't put the erosion barrier up before quitting work on Friday and we were getting nervous construction site erosion was going to plug our street drain. Glad we did it because it's raining hard again.

Houston Ch13 put up a graphic earlier showing 48 hr Harvey rain fall totals and they were all over 22 inches. They were for the neighboring communities S of Houston.

All breaking records already and they are saying up to two-three more days till Houston gets on the clean side of Harvey!

All freeways are essentially closed because of water over them at some point.

The eye is pushing back into the GoM. Pray this damn storm starts moving northward soon and the bands quit picking up water and energy off the GoM.

Well, all routes north to get away from here are shut down due to flooding. So if our house floods, we'll just have to live with wet feet.

Trump signing the order for Federal Disaster assistance should help considerably. It frees up considerable resources to assist the state and local folks who are understandably overwhelmed.

The resources this country has with its military is simply incredible. I am hoping that the new FEMA director is up to the task.
