Hurricane Zeta
Damage was considerably more than anticipated. Video of the surge in Biloxi. The Siege lantern was very handy that Para suggested.

Micropterus
We had some serious gusts here in Virginia. I didn't think it would have amounted to anything by the time it got to us.

My area of NC had some pretty good gusts as well and a good number of trees and power lines down. We were lucky, the wind took down my antenna with the weather station on it and dropped a dead tree across the main access road off the mountain. I helped cut it up, can't have the old ladies worried about doctor appointments and grocery shopping.

Lucky for us here in LaPlace Louisiana, we were on the West side of the storm which spared us the worst of it. We were on generator power for less than 24 hours, but we ended up with a medical emergency. My daughter had appendicitis during the storm. She went from playing in the initial wind and rain of the storm to being curled up on the floor in pain and unable to hold down even water within a couple of hours. She is at Children's Hospital in New Orleans right now recovering from surgery.

I just returned from the hospital and there's still a lot of areas without power for anything including streetlight between here and the hospital. My mother in law lives on the West Bank and she still has no power and they're telling her it could be another week. For a fast moving weak category 2 storm it packed quite a punch.

I wish your daughter a speedy recovery. Childrens is a good facility. We were in the Northeast Quandrant and had winds over 100mph. Some areas here have power, most do not. Curfew in effect here from dusk to dawn. No looting that I could see. People helping one another clean up the mess.

Thanks. She's still here, but could possibly be released to go home tomorrow. I just found out that her appendix had burst, possibly DAYS before the storm.

And she's lucky she didn't develop peritonitis.
