dry-flyNeed recliner type chair recommendations
I had pretty extensive back surgery this last Monday and our furniture situation stinks. I need something with power and supportive, not a slob type La z boy with a built in beer cooler. Not necessarily massaging, I know that would up the price considerably. Just looking online I keep coming across something called "Zero Gravity" type recliners. I'm at a disadvantage in that I can't drive all over trying them out, so I thought I'd see what y'all might know of. Thank you all!

grecoI also have been looking into buying a recliner recently. It seems like all the big names of the past are now turning out chairs with lots of problems, and short service life . My inlaws purchased 3 Lazyboys in the last 3 years, and I bought 2 Lanes. And not the bargain basement models either, and they all are broken down. Mine are not sitting level, and the recline mechanisms are broke. My in-laws have mechanism failures and springs popping out. None of us are over 200 pounds.
None of these chairs was covered by a good warranty. In fact, one of the manufacturers says they are warrateed for life--- however, the expected life is 7 years. The manufacturers want them sent back on my dime. The retailers will not return calls. A sad state in the furniture biz. I will be watching this thread to see what is recommended. You will get a bunch of:
My____ is 15 years old and is like new
My mothers ___ is 42 years old and works fine.

dry-flyWell, just since typing this I've had a family member offer to give me their "Zero Gravity" recliner. What a God send!

KrazeehorseWell if you pull the trigger on a recliner make sure it fits you. Too many people look at the giant overstuffed chair and find out it is too deep for them after they purchase it and spend a few evenings in it. Often better shops will have the same chair in two or three frame sizes. That will help you feel the difference.

4MUL8RRecognizing you have a solution, I can offer others perusing the thread that a la-z-boy can be the answer. Mine is firm, has memory foam, electric adjustment including lumbar. It is even tall size.

jjkroll32My father has quite a few low back problems after many years of physical occupations.
He's enjoyed StressLess chairs with ottomans. Rather expensive, but his has held up well as it's his afternoon and evening perch.

ZecpullAfter my Back surgery I bought a Stressless Recliner,it is the best. It maintains support on your back throughout the recline. it has an ottoman . Mine is over 6 yrs old and still looks and feels new.

LS1 GTOUhm, what's wrong with the built-in beer cooler?

Oz_ShadowBest I have used is a La z boy Joshua model with independent dual back and leg motors. It was far and away better than any other model in the store.
No beer cooler and it's actually pretty compact.
I got the manual version and wish I had the dual power model. The manual slowly reclines all the way and then I fall asleep.

I currently sleep in a La-Z-Boy recliner, and have done so for several years (I breathe better partially sitting up). I actually try out recliners in the store by sitting in them for a short while, and it is a big help--I get zero back issues sitting in my chair, even for hours at a time (sleeping or vegging).

Have you tried an adjustable bed? I have a Tempurpedic adjustable bed and can sleep much better with a slight incline but don't have to be sitting like I am in a recliner.

calugoI've been looking at buying new furniture for my living room and bedroom but all the major retailers in my area have some seriously bad reviews in regards to stuff falling apart after a couple years and piss poor customer service. I checked raymour and flanigan, mealeys, ashley, the dump and a few others. I don't want to spend 3-4 grand and then have it fall apart in 5 years. I found a place called oskar huber put their stuff is priced twice as high as all the others

2010ChallengerI bought a Golden MaxiComforter Infinite Position Lift Chair that was on special for 20% off when they were about to deliver it and the buyer checked out. I don't use the lift, but it's super solid and has the "Zero-G" feature and is very comfortable.
