Twisted ankle chronic pain and swallowing help!
My wife twisted her ankle on vacation back in 2019 while in Jamaica. At the Hotel, the medic wanted $10k for just looking at it… Can’t do, do not have that kind of money.

Back in Argentina she had it looked at by doctors, traumatologiata, sports specialists, you name it. No solution. She can no longer walk or stand for long periods. By walking i mean just a couple of blocks.

The swelling is on the rear of the bony parts.

In the meantime, she was diagnosed with diabetes and has been taking good care of her and following orders to the dot. She lost some weight as she was generally swollen in her previous unknown condition. She is not a heavy or fat woman. She’s 1.70m tall and under 70kg. So basically, things are headed the right way.

But there’s no way we can take a few days off on holiday (last was 2019) if she can’t walk less than half an hour.

Any fresh ideas are welcome.

Possibly a ligament issue? Similar to plantar fasciitis? There are so many different ligaments in the ankle, that would be my next line of questioning.

Did any of the sports medicine specialists order images? Doesn’t sound like you’ve ever received a diagnosis of the issue causing the pain and swelling.

Seems to me whatever doctor you took her to ought to have ordered images, MRI. X-rays, of her ankle to determine the cause of her pain. There has to be a cause, arthritis, ligament damage, a broken bone that hasn't healed properly. I would take her to a good orthopedist even if you have to travel to another country to get her looked at and evaluated.

I wonder if just doing 45 days in a boot would be a good try

There is a super good supplement that helps with ligament repair. Ligaplex II from Standard Process. I would use some sort of support as her ankle heals, such as a flexible brace. Possibly wear some shoes such as light boots that would support the ankle area.

If she has pain in the area of the injury and swelling still, maybe it's complex regional pain syndrome:
