Tapping the SF brain trust for info. I have Ewe bushes in the landscaping in the yard. This year I am having a particular problem with broadleaf weeds growing in amongst the Ewe bushes. Does anyone know of a broadleaf weed killer that won't affect the bushes?

Have you looked at Preen.

I've been using it in landscaping for nearly 2 decades, and my Dad has used Preen even longer.

I don't have any yew/ewe bushes, but it's always been fine on a wide variety of landscaping from owning homes in Upper Midwest, Texas, and Alaska.

Wasn't sure how to spell the name. Googled "ewe bushes" and it came up showing pictures of the bush so I didn't look any further on the spelling. But, YEW is correct!

Steve, do you know that yew plants will kill ruminids? Some White-tail Deer have developed resistance, but these bushes are fatal to Elk, Cattle, and domestic animals. Yew killing Elk

That may explain lack of elk in my yard. No cattle here either. I didn't know that Dresden, interesting. You'd think one evergreen would be the same as another.

I don't think my Yew bushes are the type that is so toxic. In the video about the wildlife deaths it refers to japanese yew and shows it with red berries on it. My bushes have never had any berries on them.

Yew’s are such a great landscaping shrub. Tolerant of shade. Soft. Interesting fauna. Nice pruned and shaped or natural.

As others have even mentioned, preen will help fight against new weeds emerging but it won’t touch existing weeds.

I suggest pulling and/or poisoning with a weed killer. If the yew is small enough, cover it with a cardboard box before spraying. If they are too big, the unfold the box and protect the shrub with the box while you spray.

After many years of trying all sorts of weed killers that won't harm grass, no question that Speedzone has all of them beat.

I use one of the blue dyes sold by Amazon to ensure you don't miss areas and/or over apply.

I wondered about that.

I have a row of Yews along one property line, next to my garden. I also have one Yew shrub next to the corner of the garage. All been there for years. Like, 20 at least.

This past winter, the deer completely destroyed the one by the garage, and the ones along the fence line were stripped up has high as they could reach.

And I know it was the deer because they left their little footy-prints all over the area AND I saw Momma and a pair of skippers munching on the ones down by the garden.

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.
