I have three concrete bird bath pedestals,
I'd like to put one bowl atop all three.

36 inches to 40 inches in diameter would be dandy,
4 inch tall side walls would work very well.

looking to make something on the cheap, under $40.00.

weight not to exceed 24 pounds.

went to the local bulk tank manufacturer to see if they had aluminum scraps. they said they could make me what I wanted , no problem, $159.00 ! Eek Big Grin
powder coating would be another $79.00

it's the welding , "thats where they get ya."

water heater trays are way too light, and won't last out in the sun.

can't find a barrel in that diameter, to cut down.

I went to the monument company , they have a great one for $450.00 ! too costly and WAY ! too heavy.

there are many innovative people here , thought I'd ask.

I have a traditional bird bath like you describe but I don't think you are going to find one that cheap.
I also am using a make shift bath that is very popular, especially with the smaller birds. It is a 16-17" diameter pottery dish intended for a planter saucer. It sets on a fern stand. It is only about an inch and a half deep. Perfect for titmice and chickadees.

I think I got it at Home Depot. Perhaps they also have a larger size.

I've seen some pretty hefty deer feeder lids made from galvinized steel. About $25.

I dunno, you might try the farm store for a plow disc. It’ll have some bolt holes you’d have to plug up.

FWIW people cook on a “Discada” which is a round plow disc. Or disk. Whatever you want to call it. Google and YouTube “discada cooker”.

Maybe a local farmer has some old plow discs he’d let you have one. But you gotta patch the bolt holes. Shouldn’t be any big deal.

Oh, maybe a smaller size satellite dish? Yeah.....

Wife made a great birdbath out of bricks and a ceramic tray that would sit under a large planter/pot. I’d think of you can find a planter tray large enough it’d fit the bill.

Most places around here sell the bowl and pedestal separately. The bowl is $17.

Probably the wrong time of year to find one, but Ace Hardware and True Value Hardware usually have hard plastic toddler play pools about that size, pretty cheap. You'd have to put a piece of plywood between the pedestal tops and the pool to support the weight of the pool when filled with water-it’s too flimsy without the bottom fully supported.

Link to what I’m thinking of, with a sale price from earlier this year:

Restaurant supply company. Some Hobart machine mixing bowls should be that size. Used might be affordable.

arfmel,
I had one of those on a patio table in Phoenix ,
with a mister in the center
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fle...xfUliORoCwF0QAvD_BwE

it was in the shade and protected from the wind,
the birds loved that system, the hummingbirds spent a good portion of the day flying through the mist.

my set up here would be in the all day sun and winds of 25-35 m.p.h. are very common,
so not an option.

but I appreciate you taking the time
