f2Does anyone know why C Crane recommends against the use of lithium batteries in their radios?
i have a cc radio and was curious also. here's their response:
Dear ___,
Thank you for your question. Fresh lithium batteries tend to produce 1.6-1.8VDC per cell. Unless you have a products circuit specifically designed to use the excess voltage or to block the excess voltage fresh lithium batteries can damage the product. This excess voltage adds up when you have multiple battery cells.

sigfreundThank you,
f2, for that confirmation.
I tend to use lithium batteries in most devices for several reasons: avoiding leakage, longer life (including in storage), and less sensitivity to low temperatures. The last is especially important to me as I’ve personally seen what can happen to electronic devices powered by alkaline batteries when the temperatures drop into the teens and below. Now that I know that some equipment isn’t designed to handle a little overvoltage safely (which is very surprising in this day and age), I will be alert for the warnings.

parabellumThanks for the responses. This complicates matters slightly for me, as I've been keeping lithium batteries exclusively but now I have to keep alkalines for the radio. No big deal, but...

Read it again, bendable. The subject line reads 'recommends
against the use of lithium batteries', meaning that they do not recommend lithium batteries. However, the way I phrased it is more correct, since saying that they 'don't recommend' can mean that they simply don't say anything about it one way or the other, whereas the way I phrased it means that they are saying "do not use these batteries."
BTW, C Crane makes great radios.

No doubt that you are indeed correct ,
maybe its my lack of sentence construction ability or dyslexia
but to me those two sentence's
sound contrary to one another.

parabellumYou're correct, bendable. My mistake. It's merely a typo, an omitted word.

bendableI had to mention it , it's the first mistake I've seen in 15 years ,
where as most members here quit pointing out all my errors in year 3
and the affirmation that I am not totally nuts helps me.
finishing the 2019 year knowing I was correct about anything gives me hope.
admittedly , building one's self esteem at anothers expense , not admirable

bald1bendable,
I don't recall anyone around here ever saying you were "nuts." A bit eccentric perhaps but never nuts!
And yes, hope springs eternal!

parabellumWhile we're on the subject, does anyone know if there is an issue with using lithiums in a Sony ICF-SW7600GR?
