I don't know what recourse eBay has to collect...
They can send threatening emails, they can refer to collection agency, they can ban the seller (me, for example). I would tell them to go pound sand.

satchI’m done with EBay. No more endless biding on something and find out in the end some (secret) buyer outbid you and in selling find out any amount you got for a sale is negated buy their high sale transaction charge. No more.

nra-life-memberFacebook Market place and Craigs list (local) were recommended to me. Not answering your question, but providing some other options.

rduckworI sell vintage watches on eBay. Only two bad experiences. One, the buyer claimed the watch was too small for him to wear. I responded that it was a vintage watch and there was no size discussion or guarantee. eBay sided with me and he got no recourse.
The other was shipping damage. The buyer and I worked it out outside of eBay.
What the others have told you is absolutely correct, sellers are screwed more often than not. Also, eBay now manages all payments to the seller on their terms and their fees to sell are about 16-17% of the sales price.
In short, not a great place, but until someone decides to take them on and do them one better, it is what it is.

I certainly don't want a collections record in my credit report and eBay is far more useful to me as a source of product than a place to sell, so, again: I think I'll just forgo the exercise.

I rarely participate in auctions anymore. Bidders on eBay are idiots. (I call 'em eBiots.) I have more than once watched a used item get bid up to over its MSRP for things you could still buy brand new.
Mostly I use eBay for deals on Buy It Now stuff. E.g.: The Wilson mags for one of my pistols.
Nobody, not even Wilson Combat, had 'em in stock. But there was an eBay seller that did. Good price and quick ship, too. Yesterday I finally decided on a trigger pull gauge. None of my LGS' carried it. Didn't want to buy from Amazon. Still annoyed with Brownell's. Midway would've charged me shipping atop the purchase and packed it poorly. Got it off eBay for $1 less than Amazon's price and free shipping that will probably be less than a week.

Rick LeeI use eBay mostly for musical instruments. And compared to selling on consignment at the local mom and pop music store, eBay wins hands down. No local music store will get anything like the numbers of eyes eBay gets and they'll still charge a larger commission than eBay for it, if it eve sells. I've had some bumps with eBay and PayPal, but have usually come out on top.

HildurI remember when eBay and Paypal used to charge reasonable fees, buyer and sellers were honest with one another and it was a great way to get things that are not readily available locally. Now listing and payment fees are easily 10%+, buyers can scam sellers and eBay will side with the buyer regardless of the facts. I would be very careful listing anything on eBay.

1967GoatI used to buy and sell a fair amount on ebay. Then, I sold a Garmin Rino GPS unit and someone scammed me, and ebay sided with them. He sent back a unit that was not the one I sent him. I had pictures of the serial # to prove it. Ebay didnt care.
I will buy stuff on ebay, but not sell. Especially if its valuable.

frayedendseBay screwed my ex wife on a china set. She was the seller. Buyer claimed it was damaged and missing pieces. Buyer failed to mention USPS put a note that they damaged it. We fought showing proof it shipped perfect. We lost. Got the return too late to file a claim with USPS. EBAY sucks for sellers.
These go to eleven.

Hamden106Just today I received a Weaver base for my Remington XP100. It is brand new but missing parts. The rear screw and shim are not there.
I started a return/solution correspondence. We will see how it goes.
I am not a buyer very often. Even less as a seller.

justsiginI sold on eBay for years but I don't anymore. I had a buyer use the system against me because he was pissed I didn't take his low ball offers. He made false claims and cost me good money.
No more selling for me. I do still buy from time to time, when I can't find something anywhere else.
I learned my lesson, no matter how many 1000 positive sells you have the buyer can use eBay to screw you and eBay will not help you nor even listen to you !!!
Learned my lesson!!!
