I have a very particular set of skills |
Just like the title says: Do you think you could be a full-time politician? Say in a very large city (like Dallas, NYC), large county, state or higher level? And not in a theoretical sense of how things should be, but as they actually are. And no, you don't get to automatically have all your SigForum Bro's be fellow politicians around you. Think if it like this - you just decide to run for political position X and you win, as things stand, good and bad. In addition trying to navigate the role of your position, also consider the way your life would be publicly dissected during and after the campaign. What say you? Boss A real life Sisyphus... "It's not the critic who counts..." TR Exodus 23.2: Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong... Despite some people's claims to the contrary, 5 lbs. is actually different than 12 lbs. It's never simple/easy.

I have known to lie from time to time, but lying all day every day would be difficult. And pretending to care and saying I am working to effect real, beneficial change would be hard, too. Would be nice to become a multi millionaire, though. No political office for me. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

I read a book entitled, "Why The Church Can't Change America." A whole lot of subjects were addressed, but the one that pertains to this topic was: Politics involves compromise. But, the church is commanded not to compromise.

I would never get elected because I'd run on the principles of liberty. Not enough people want true liberty any more. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

Of course I could. So could you. You just fight the good fight at work and then shut it off when you go home. Whether you would ever get re-elected is a whole other story. As for the church not compromising, I guess that author wrote the book 100 years ago. Churches compromise all the time. Go read the latest popes ideas. Seems like a compromise on the originating document to me. lol

Nope, but if their were term limits I might reconsider.

I really don't care about other peoples feelings. If they don't like the way I do things, they should do it themselves. I'm not willing to do things just to make other people happy. My job is to make me happy (That includes making my wife and family happy I guess). This is a crude way of saying it, but fuck a lot of them. Its their job to make themselves happy, not mine. If they break the law doing it, they can pay the consequences. Compromise is for suckers. Do it if it makes you happy, just don't expect it from me or others. Unhappy ammo seeker

I think about it from time to time. I would be better than the most of the swamp rats in office. I think with almost 300 million people in this country the best we can can do is this is appalling. People get the government they deserve. They voted for them.

A number of years ago, I was chairman of the local school board and was approached by an outgoing Republican State Senator asking if I was interested in running for his seat. I just laughed at him and said "Not in a million years". I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown ................................... Beat me to that one The last city we lived in showed me that anybody could get into a governmental leadership position regardless of how incompetent they were. Could not stand to be part of that. Think the best one came up about three weeks after we sold our house there. A letter arrived at our new address stating that there was a city ordinance violation relating to address numbers not visible on the building and I had ten days to comply or I would receive a violation notice. Next day I called the Code Enforcement office. Once I gave the person the case number she started in a monotone drone "You have ten days" to which I said "Stop right there, I have NO days to comply, if you would update your records after walking your ass down to the City Clerk's office you would see that on this date the property was sold outright and we have NO connection whatsoever with this property." Her answer after a short silence was "Would you contact the new owner to let them know of this violation?" My reply "Are you kidding me?" as I hung up. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. No. Not only would I not want to be active part of the whole political system mess, I'd hate the whole socializing/politicking aspect of "spending all day going from event to event to shake hands and kiss babies". That's way too much social interaction for me. I'm a bit of an introvert/misanthrope.
