Let's be honest, Gentlefolk, he got his death sentence by whatever means, the day he was named 'Antoquon'.

Just took a while to enforce it.

Man, that is disappointing. I own a couple of their products, and have been well pleased.

If the CEO of the company was that detached from what was going on, he might consider selling to someone who will be engaged with the real world. That type of bad press will be long remembered when people start to look at holstering options, which is a very competitive market.

One would think, wouldn’t we?

Nevertheless, a surprising number of LE agencies don’t issues rifles, and many even prohibit regular “patrol” officers from using their own. Others have such stringent (and unrealistic, IMO) training and qualification requirements in order for an officer to be able to use one on duty as to serve as significant deterrents to their routine availability.

I believe those attitudes and policies largely result from ignorance and laziness. Ignorance on the part of policy makers and even users about the supposed hazards that patrol rifles pose and the difficulty of their use. Laziness on the part of those who aren’t at the point of the spear, who have some responsibility for policies and training, but who simply don’t want to be bothered.

In fact, in my experience rifles are if anything less likely to be handled unsafely than handguns before being fired, and are definitely less dangerous to the uninvolved when they are fired. Adequately-trained officers shooting rifles are much less likely to simply miss their targets, and if they do, the bullets are less likely to over-penetrate or ricochet to parts unknown than many handgun bullets.

The drawback to rifles, and as may have happened in this situation, is that they’re slower to employ. If someone jumps out of a vehicle after a chase and starts shooting, few officers are likely to take time to grab a rifle from a rack or case before returning fire.

This video is proof positive, if the bad guy is worth shooting, he's worth shooting a buncha times.

The last four or five rounds fired at him on the ground sounded more like rifle shots...anyone else notice that?

I kinda thought the same thing. But tough to tell with the distance, acoustics, echo, cheap audio pick up, etc.

Unclear about any patrol rifles, but according to the prosecutor's report, the officer who first made contact with Antoquan in the restaurant parking lot before the chase was carrying his issued shotgun when he approached the suspect's car. Antoquan drove away and no shots were fired at that time.

The same prosecutor's report notes that during the final shootout "one Pleasantville officer fired four rounds from a shotgun as well as his department-issued handgun. The other six officers fired only their department-issued handguns."

My shop is roughly an hour from AC, I've talked to NJ cops (they always turn their body cameras off when we bullshit about guns), I was bitching about the gun laws in NJ and how stupid they are and he said he isn't even allowed to have an AR with him on patrol, even if he were to supply it.

Pity he couldn't have moved to Minneapolis. With a new mayor, those cops might have been unarmed and everything woulda been alright after all.
