Two ZZ Top songs came up in my YouTube Music rotation today. That's unusual because I had not added them to my list.

RIP Mr. Hill. I enjoyed the tunes.

Oh, my! That's terrible news for the day.

My wonderful girlfriend arranged tickets for us to see ZZ Top about two years ago. It was a great show, no doubt. I'm glad we got to see them.

RIP, Dusty Hill.

God bless America.

The band announced Hill’s death on their official Facebook page, writing "We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX. We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top'. We will forever be connected to that "Blues Shuffle in C. You will be missed greatly, amigo. Frank & Billy”

It comes just a few days after the band said Dusty would be stepping back from tour to address a hip injury:

The members of ZZ Top, Billy, and Frank, would like to share that Dusty, their fearless Bass player, is on a short detour back to Texas, to address a hip issue. They await a speedy recovery and have him back pronto.

Per Dusty’s request “The show must go on!”. With that directive, ZZ Top has put the services of Mr. Elwood Francis, their trusted guitar tech of the past two decades, into play with his slide guitar, bass guitar, and harmonica playing in full swing.

“And with Elwood to our right, rest assured ZZ Top will deliver their good time, signature show”, said Billy F Gibbons. “Billy’s big guitar, crushing drums from Mr. Beard, and Elwood securing the bottom end continues the delivery with those famous three chords we all dig”.

Damn! I am bummed. Was listening to them back in 1973 and got the Tres Hombres album right after it came out. Saw ZZ Top live first time at their Recycler Tour at the Tacoma Dome in 1990 and again at the Washington State Fair in 1997. They are never going to be able replace Dusty and I think this is the last we will see of ZZ Top in full glory. So Sad.

Saw three of there concerts,
A best buddy had seen 13!
With six back stage passes.

They were coming to Cedar Rapids soon, don't expect I will be going now.

They are great to play on the bars juke box, not the famous four tunes, but the dozen other very good songs.
Consider
Myself fortunate to have experienced the ZZ Top era in American music.

50 years with no breakups or personnel changes! ZZTop is the longest lived rock band in history. The secret according to the Reverend Billy F. Gibbons: Never add a 4th chord.

Godspeed to Dusty Hill.

Sad news. My wife and I bought tickets for them this coming Nov at the Hard Rock Ft Lauderdale, thinking we should see them before the worst happens. Iconic band, and great story behind them. It won't be the same, no offence to their tech who has been with them 20 years.
