The Bears are not the only team having problems with the draft. Years ago the Lions drafted Matt Stafford at QB. Stafford is a very good passing QB, not great but very good. He has a lot of very impressive passing stats, but there is a reason for that. In all the years he has been the Loin's QB they have never had an even good what alone great running back. So the Lions have been a one dimension offense ever since Stafford has been the QB. They have to pass most of the time because they can't run the ball. In all these years the Lions have not been able to find and draft a running back. Other teams seem to be able to find good/great running backs every year. When looking at the Lions draft picks the Bears drafting Trubisky seems like a minor error.

Many of these teams spend an insane amount of money on a QB and maybe another key player or 2. They have nothing left for the rest of the team. I think of the Packers. Rogers is in the middle of a 4 year deal worth $134 MILLION bucks. Really?

I watched Rivers last night against the Chiefs. He will make $23 million this year while Mahomes (2018 MVP) will make only $4.5 million. (He'll make up the difference on those stupid State Farm commercials). Who's the better QB?

I see some of these teams moving on from over paid players and spreading the wealth - and balance on the team.

Such as...?

QB's make a metic ton because if you don't have one...you end up looking like the Miami Dolphins or, NY Jets. I'm sure Tennessee or, Tampa would like to have a decent QB. The model is to draft a coachable QB, have a solid coaching staff around him, surround him with a solid O-line, and competent skill players then cross fingers things flourish in the rookie season contract.

As for Rivers...he's done. Doesn't help he's playing for a crappy owner and coach that's in over his head. Age and the hits have caught up with him, he had a very good career, time to raise his brood of kids.

There is no question you need a good running back with a competent O line. But the running back position is becoming a side dish with the main course being the passing game. It happens now and again that a team can be quite successful with a bus driver QB. It's just a difficult task to pull off and you better have a top rated defense to go along with it. See Baltimore Ravens.
