thumperfbcDoes anybody do any home-canning with metal tins?
I like to can a few items throughout the year for our own use and recently was thinking that it would be nice if I could process some meal-type dishes in the disposable metal tins, like you would but at the store. There are some obvious benefits to them. So I started looking around and it certainly can be done at home with a special sealing tool.
Anybody here have any experience with this in the residential setting? I'd love to be able to have my own chili sitting in single serving metal cans to take to work or camping or wherever and not have to worry about a glass jar breaking or bringing it home and cleaning and such.

AglifterCanning meat is a whole “thing”. It can be done at home but the recipe must be tested and never deviated from.

pace40Sorry, been canning for over 50 years. Never once thought to use a can. Ball jars and lids and a canning pot that was my Grandmas.

GustoferI looked into it some years back as I thought it would be handy to be able to do #10 cans. It ended up being cost prohibitive between the lined cans and the sealer itself.

egregoreIf you're (rightly) concerned about glass jars breaking, why not take out what you need for your camping trip and put it in another kind of container? It won't spoil
that fast.
