When the time came for my girl to cross the bridge a couple of month's ago it was tough.

We rescued a young Jack Russell border collie mix five or six years age. He was a bit tough to get adjusted but once that was accomplished he has turned into a great dog. He was great with our female Australian cattle dog. She loved him. It was good for both of them. In the last few months it has brought us closer than ever before.

Down to one dog was going well. He seemed fine. Sort of planned to go with that.

We have lost two cats recently too. So it has been a bit of a tough go.

There had a been a bit of a nagging thought about another pup. But I just pushed it aside. We had discussed it on occasion, but just left it.

Our local shelter is in a neighboring community that we are in quite a bit. We have an ongoing relationship with them since adopting my girl about 15 years ago. We donate to them because they rely solely on donations and adoption fees.

We were interested in another dog at the shelter.
While a beautiful dog as well, she just was not a good fit for our home.
Long story I know, so I will cut to the chase. We adopted 1-1/2 +- year old heeler mix female. Here name is Galena. She is sweet as pie. Seems like it will work out great. She has the same eyes my beloved "girlie" had. I feel like i am looking into her eyes when looking into Galena's.
She is beautiful, smart and seem's enamored with our male. He is so, so so far. He likes her I can tell though. He is a bit of a tough nut to crack Smile

We got her yesterday so are only in about 20 hours.

A bit of a side story. My wife was watching a story about something in the Ukraine and there was an old woman in the story and her name was Galena. This was the night before we got her.

I am not set up to post pix. If someone wants to I can email a pix to post.

I know many here love animals and have a special place in their hearts for rescue's.

Galena was rescued from an instate reservation, fwtw.

There is definitely a "disturbance in the force" around the homestead these day's Big Grin

She is all girl. Taking over the joint!
The cats all like her except one. After a couple of nights on her bed on the floor she joined the crew on the bed. The couch, the other dogs chair, etc. etc.

I guess it official. She is in!

That’s fantastic news. Mixing animals can sometimes be stressful so it’s nice she’s worked her way in already.

We have a Heeler mix shelter dog and they are very smart.
The one we have now is half Heeler and half Beagle. We had another one that looked similar but we didn't use the DNA test back then so what else was there.
That first one lived to about 16 1/2 and was an amazingly agile dog.
They both have/had a feisty and assertive temperament that is probably the herding instinct but not any meanness. They just like to be in control. She even lets us sleep on her bed.
