They can't just say "don't do that again?" and move on? Confused

....sigh....

I am sympathetic to his plight, but have to side with Home Depot. What if they were not shoplifters or they had been injured? They would have sued the SHIT out of Home Depot. And if they had not been shoplifters and a minority? Forget about it.

It sucks that he's 70 and still needs to work! I really hope somebody local will see this and he will have a ton of job offers for more money.

If all he did was toss a paint roller pole at them does that really qualify as "pursue and engage shoplifters"?
Seems they could of let this one slide if they wanted to.

He should have claimed they startled him and he dropped the pole!

I would like to see the video...

In some states, like KY, a store owner or employee can use physical force to detain a shoplifter. This happens all the time here. Loss prevention at Walmart gets into foot pursuits almost daily here. We go and assist, take the guy into custody.

The stores have nothing to fear from civil suits either so it is moot.

Before this turns into a thread about loss prevention or employees being wanna be cops, let's just agree that shoplifters going to jail is a good thing.

The other side of the coin are the stores that loose thousands of dollars of product in a days time. They only want the police report so they can write off the inventory to keep their books straight with no interest in prosecution.
