I second this. I've owned a RecTec and now have a Yoder YS640s and the Yoder is a much better pellet grill.

bettysnephewI doubled down for a Memphis Elite and never looked back, but the entry fee is quite bit higher. All stainless and mine is a USA made unit.

Wow, for that price it ought to give a back rub and read you a bed time story.

It seems to be a common sentiment that the Yoder is a better grill than the Recteq but just based on the amount of stainless steel used on the Recteq I am surprised that it doesn't rank over the Yoder. It seems from what I have read that somehow the Yoder has a more even heat than the Recteq.
Since you have had both, what specifically have you found to be better with the Yoder?

My RecTec was prior to wifi controller but I love the FireBoard integration with the Yoder. I can monitor and control the cook from the FireBoard App. It heats more evenly than the RecTec did and I love the cutout in the drip tray on the Yoder that lets me access the firebox without dismantling the whole grill. The Yoder is built much better than the RecTec but the RecTec was a good grill. The Yoder has a ceramic ignitor which will last longer than the RecTec ignitor.

mrvmaxWell, I paid around $650 for my Camp Chef with sear box and am perfectly happy. I can buy three of them for the prices of the Yoder. Yes, I did get a discount for being a Veteran from Camp Chef so I never paid sticker price. I know there are better ones but mine works fine for the wife and I and I use it a lot.

I was very close to buying the Recteq, the main things that pushed me towards the Yoder were:
- The Yoder is made in the US, the Recteq in China ( I have really been on a kick to stop buying Chinese goods if I can help it).
- I have this awesome grill store within 30 minutes of my house that is a Yoder dealer (the Recteq can only be ordered online.
- The Yoder weighs almost twice what the Recteq does, not sure that it matters but I felt the heat retention may be better and the construction is heavy duty.
- I read that the Yoder will get a bit hotter. This was important for me for cooking steaks (my Yoder will go over 700)
All this being said, the Recteqs get great reviews and have many appealing aspects like stainless construction, sleek design, better price, etc.
I don't think you could go wrong with either, I merely suggested that spending a bit more to get a US made grill might appeal to the potential purchasers.

45_AutoCheck out Pit Boss Pellet Grills. I have one and absolutely love it. The new models now have wifi. They smoke, grill, sear...I use mine a lot especially for Ribs, Brisket and Pulled Pork.

1s1kI’m glad I bought mine when I did. It’s insane at the asking price most of these pellet grills have risen too since their popularity has also skyrocketed.

trapper189The OP is asking about a $400 grill, I don’t understand the suggestions that $1,800 is a little bit more than that.

sigmoidBought a smaller, cheaper grill and regretted the waste of money.(camp chef)
Just bought a Yoder 640s, it will last the rest of my days, very well built, quality thruout.
Maybe bigger than what me and the wife need, but friends, neighbors do like us more now.
Learned a long time ago on grills, cheap in the long run is expensive. $$$
Save and get the best I say.

Actually the rt340 is $700 and the RT 590 is $900, but yes the other suggestions are a "bit" more

trapper189My mistake. I had it in my head you were considering the Bullseye.

It is dang expensive but I was replacing my two BGE setups that were destroyed in last years Derecho {inland hurricane} so that took most of the brunt of it.

Some of these
I think some of these places are capitalizing on the fact that a lot of people truly believe that the most expensive anything is the best one.
It goes back to the old "you get what you pay for" which is not always true these days.

Jeff YarchinOver the years I've had a Traeger and a GMG Davie Crockett. Now I have a Yoder.
Yes, it is more expensive than most other pellet grills but it's a tank and will last a couple of lifetimes. It weighs 400 pounds.
It's made in Kansas using only USA made steel and components. It oozes quality. For me it was worth the money and so far performs leaps and bounds ahead of the other pellet smokers that I've had.
I feel like I got my money's worth.

daikyuI am seriously thinking of getting a pellet grill that does double duty as a smoker and a grill.
How are your experiences doing both with one unit. At this point I don't want to go the BGE route.

Me too.
Speaking from total ignorance on this subject, it sort of looks to me like the RecTeq Bullseye would do that job; I'm thinking about getting one, but I'ma hold off for a bit to see what comments appear in this thread.

Jeff YarchinAnother satisfied Yoder 480S owner here.
My BGE is going up for sale. The Yoder does is all. It’s a tank.
