Anyone use those meal prep delivery things??
Of course I asked about Protein Powders here the other day and I get bombarded with Protein Powder ads. They have since switched to Meal Prep delivery ads.
Actually might not be a bad idea for lunches when I am working.
Just curious if you all have one you all like.

We had Hello Fresh last winter. It was very good and cost effective. It gets you out of a cooking rut by preparing meals you otherwise wouldn't. Produce items can be a little on the end of freshness but other than that I had no complaints.

Wait... bombarded with ads about a product you posted about here? That doesn't compute for me. Methinks you are getting "mined" somewhere else like the devices you use to post...but not from this site. Might want to examine those devices.

As to your query, sorry no experience to share.

I got hit up by one ad, I can't recall the name, but you get a microwave oven with a built in scanner. Each meal pack has a barcode and will tell the oven how to cook it.

I mean, that's so lazy, you might as well just go and marry a pregnant woman, if you're that lazy.

Used home chef for about six months or so. Pricing wasn’t bad and for the first few months selection seemed good but then got repetitive. Also had a few pieces of meat that were suspect or missing an ingredient. Luckily home chef was very helpful and ended up covering the cost of the meal.

Strange you might note this.

Last week my wife had four meals delivered. Had everything in the meal; meat, vegetables, spices, and the recipe. The recipe was the key because we liked all the meals and put two of them into yhe rotation (both Asian type recipes).

I thought of less of a "how much did this cost?" and more as the new food idea and recipe with.

My neighbors are super healthy, fit people, but also love good food. They talked me into Sun Basket and it was one of the highlights of 2021.

I'm on their paleo plan. I mainly get stir fries, but also enjoy their stews such as this one. 90% of the time it's good or excellent. A few tips:
  • I don't get their steak. My local HEB has better quality for less money. However, my neighbors say their filet is excellent.
  • I don't get their pollock (quality doesn't match price and neither does quantity). Instead, upgrade to their salmon or halibut. I'm a total halibut and salmon snob after living in Alaska for 5-years and theirs passes muster.

Both my AMEX and Visa routinely have 10% Sunbasket rebates which has been nice.

If anybody wants to try, this link gets them $90 off first 4 orders (i.e. $22.50 each). To be transparent, I'd get a $40 discount too.

We have tried Hello Fresh, Freshly and Dinnerly. So far, Dinnerly is our preferred one. It does tend to get repetitive, but you can save and modify recipes that you like.

A steady diet of any of the services will get monotonous, so we only get a couple of meals at a time.

Wife and I holiday gifted each other a meal prep service for 6 weeks or whatever the initial trial was back on Dec.

She got me Factor which was totally prepared meals you just heat up. I used them for lunches for a few weeks. I give them a meh. I felt like I was heating up leftover conference (or wedding) food for lunch. A couple were good, but I didn’t think the value was there to continue it past the trial. The portions were good for lunch but it would have made for a very small dinner.

I got her EveryPlate (3 meals a week) and I cooked them so we could start having non kid oriented meals on the weekends. They basically send you all the ingredients in a box and then step by step instructions. The 3 a week plan was about $40 bucks and they were simple to cook. I am also a moron when it comes to cooking and I didn’t manage to make any unrecoverable mistakes. Everything we got was good, but for me it was still a solid 30-45min of prep/cook. Again though- I am not good in the kitchen. We just get 1 a month now, which requires me to go and skip weeks in the app. I wouldn’t want to do it every week.

While not from the Sigforum post specifically. It’s because I started doing searches or inquired about the protein powders suggested here in web searches.
    Happens all the time.

We did Hello Fresh for quite some time and tried Fresh Plate. We prefer Hello Fresh but my wife made the comment that most everything is fried in oil. However, the meals we had were exceptional minus a few. We have replicated some of the meals we liked with store bought ingredients and had success with them. Price point is not bad for the convenience of it being delivered. We did have a bad experience of a lost package that arrived late. The ice was melted and the meat was over 40° when it arrived. Hello Fresh credited our account and was excellent with their customer service.

We re subscribed to Hello Fresh. Needed some new recipes. My wife is learning how to cook and this helps a lot. After 3 or 4 months, they start repeating, so we cancel when that happens. I also tried Freshly, took them to work for lunch. They were good, but not much selection.

I like ICON meals. Roughly $9 per meal, taste good and very convenient. Just need a microwave.

My wife orders Blue Apron, which is very good, with the rare exception. We had one meal that was lacking ingredients, but they credited us the whole meal, no problem.

Can we add a new section to the forum? SigForum made me buy it? LOL Big Grin

I vaguely remember hearing about that Tovala thing a while back and thought it seemed interesting but it never looked much into it once I saw the price of things. Completely forgot about it till now. Went and looked again for giggles and they had a huge discount for the cooker.

LOL $52 for the cooker, and I set up on the 4 meals per week plan Roll Eyes 100 days to try it, the discount for the cooker is dependent on 6 weeks worth of meal orders within the first 6 months.

First delivery is supposed to be next week. I will let you know how it is. Damiitall lol Frown Razz

We tried it once. I’m surprised that no one has mentioned that the portion sizes are pretty small and don’t seem like enough to really fill you up, or at least the one we tried was like that.

Freshly — ready made, only microwaving required. Reminded me of business class airline meals. Convenient but we abandoned this service.

Hello Fresh — kit, requires prep and cooking. Really enjoy. Excellent recipe cards 8.5 x 11 suitable for retention. Sauces make the meals. We plan to replicate these recipes with our own purchased foods at some point, to save money.
