Yeah, that happens around here too.

I found two sets of headlights for an Infinity Q-45 in the junkyard.

I put both of them on my old truck. One set is the headlights, the other set is the fog lights.

They look like they came from the factory that way (okay, if they had projector HIDs on a 2004)

The original idea was to be able to see the deer before they jump out in the middle of the road.

It just happens to be bright enough to have oncoming traffic want to dim their lights as well.

My brother had a set of those on his old Rambler station wagon. Burned a few retinas he did.

Before I had a dimming rear view and side mirrors if someone had their brights on behind me I would do this. I would realign my rear view mirror so it shone right back through the rear window into their eyes. 9 time out of 10 it cleared that shit up right away!

Yeah and to add to that, my pet peeve (well yes I do have more pet peeves) nowadays is the very tall pickups and suv's, especially the Ford pickups.

When they are driving behind me, or sitting right behind me at a stoplight, whatever, because they sit so high from the ground, their headlights are level with my rear view mirror and it's blinding.

IMO, that's so unsafe.

Can't tell you how many times someone thought my high beams were on and they weren't. Flashing me or just leaving theirs on. Amazing what sets people off on the road. Brake checking someone is one of the dumbest and most inciting things you can do on the road.

Mark, no offense but may I ask your age? I am 72 and struggling with the exact same problem. It gets "worser" as you get older. Several months ago I went to replace the acrylic headlight "boxes" on my old truck and had an idea that I would get the absolute BRIGHTEST headlight bulbs I could find. I was never so surprised in all my life to discover the variety of headlight bulbs available.

The one thing I remember is that some of the replacements burn so bright & so strong that they have to have cooling fans & such built into the back of the bulbs - which of course makes the whole unit much larger & less likely to fit in the available room. But I backed off the super bright headlight idea, not wanting to do to others what so many others were doing to me.

There is no doubt in my mind that MANY of the headlight systems that are presently running up & down the road are quite illegal; but try to report them to sheriffs or state troopers & see how far you get. There is NO DOUBT that the officers have bigger fish to fry.

I clearly remember one time that I was forced to STOP close to an interstate On Ramp by a big truck who was more than adequately equipped for night driving. He blinded me. I dared not move for fear of running off the road or hitting something. I just sat there until he "wised up" and lowered his beams. In short, I think this problem can be viewed in the light of our consideration for our fellow man. And unfortunately, I don't think there is a lot of consideration left to go around.

You might do well to check your state laws & find out how many headlamp units and how many lumens "the law allows". And here's something else that might help: Drive with your lights on high beam as much as possible.... until you see an oncoming vehicle. And make SURE that he sees you lower your beams as you approach him. That MIGHT help..... FredT

I’ve around the Sun 53 times so far. My near vision requires correction now, which makes the hobbies harder. However, I’ve always had sensitivities in vision. Bright lights seem to stay with me as white and blue spots long after I look away. My cell phone’s night setting is dimmed in a way that my wife can’t see it if I show her something.

I'm 40, and it drives me absolutely batshit. Everyone is also in a elevated vehicle too, I'm not, so if they're behind me they are usually going straight into my back window. White light is also terrible for your eyes, everyone thinks you can see better, it just creates more contrast and actually decreases functional sight.
I think tinted windows are also to blame. People can't see out of their own vehicles at night without a lighting system MORE POWERFULL THAT THE SUN.
