The apple ear buds are downright dangerous for anything on city streets. They cancel out ALL outside noise. You'd have no idea if a car was running you over.

The Axil Xcor seem like a good deal. I just don't know how well you can listen to tunes and still have active hearing enhancement of your surroundings. They would also serve a dual purpose at the range of course. The racing stripes also 10 watts to your performance.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra ear buds.... great sound, works with OS or Android, and they stay in. I've golfed, played basketball, and run with them in. No problemo.

I like Airpod Pro's for most things but use Shokz on the bike. With the Shokz I can still hear what's going on around me.

Only true if you put them in that mode. You can choose Transparency (hear everything)-Adaptive (cancels loud noise)-Cancelling (dead quiet)

I've had a lot of different in-ear buds over the years and was never really comfortable with any of them. Then, about 6 months ago I bought a pair of SHOKZ and my search ended. These are over-the-ear buds that allow me to hear my surroundings while I'm out walking as well as very clear Bluetooth music and calls on my cell phone. They never fall off and automatically connect to my phone, TV, and tablet whenever I put the on.

Transparency mode on the Air Pods does the same thing. You can hear your surroundings.

If you want hassle free connectivity and you have an Iphone, Air Pods by Apple are your best bet. They connect automatically to your Apple devices.

When I cut my grass I will finish by clearing the sidewalks with my mower running. Two weeks ago I was doing this and a young lady starts walking towards me with her head down and eyes on her phone. She is walking straight at me and about 15 feet away I started yelling at her in attempt to get her to look up. At 5 feet I screamed STOP as loudly as I could. She stopped, looked up, and then walked around me. Without a thank you or any confirmation that I was even there. Typical for Gen Z but I will refrain from further comment beyond my suspicion that they may in fact be unable to actually copulate.

Do you really need earbud's ? ? ? ? Think hard about that, because at some point you may be obliterated by a Firetruck responding to an emergency.

I have had several

Galaxy buds, I loved the sound but they wouldn't stay put. They would randomly fall out at the gym and while working at home. I was over the engine bay of my daughters car and one fell out never to be seen again. Bought the Pros, they were even worse for staying in place.

I tried several other cheaper ones but they would stop working when sweat got on them

The Mrs. wanted an over the ear bud so I did a good bit of research and ordered these for my self to try them out. They are great, they stay put and the sound is amazing. Ordered her a pair for Christmas and she loves them too.

The other great thing about the over the ear buds is you can still hear things around you


My AKG N60 headphones broke finally, they get used mostly for air travel. Noise cancelling and watching movies. Anyway after looking around I asked the Mrs. for these Soundcore headphones

I've become an avid cyclist and in the beginning I just played music from my iphone 13 via it's internal speaker when I rode.

After several months I also bought my first pair of ear buds. After doing research I ended up with Sony's WF-1000xm5. They were last years model and so were a little cheaper.

They easily pair with my Iphone 13 like you have as well.

They are noise cancelling but you can also turn that off to hear the ambient sound around you.

My rides are usually on the Monarch levee trail which is for walkers or cyclists only - no cars/motorcycles/etc. As such I can safely wear them on the levee and it makes the ride much more fun.

When I ride on the public streets, which isn't often as I am too worried about the self absorbed knuckleheads on their phones while driving, I will NOT wear ear buds. Just not safe for road riding.

The added bonus is now when I mow my yard, weed whack, etc, I use my ear buds in the noise cancelling mode and no longer need to use my shooting muffs to save my hearing from the mower.

I used to ride with a local club, and they'd boot you off the ride if you have earbuds in.
Not the best idea when you're doing 20+ MPH on a sometimes busy road.

Sorry for the confusion. When I ride the levee, no motorized vehicles and walkers/cyclists only, I do wear my ear buds. Note I ride solo on the levee. I don't belong to any clubs.

When I ride public roads, I do NOT wear ear buds or listen to any music at all as it's not safe. Heck, with some of the electric cars you don't even hear them come up behind you.

I always ride on dedicated paved bike paths, though one does cross roads every now and then where I have to pay close attention.

Oh and regarding part of the original question, is there any issue running an exercise app while using music streaming?

If the exercise app has its own audio, you won’t be able to play both simultaneously. But if it’s just tracking your vitals you’ll be fine with music and the app working together.
