Either way it is illegal in Texas unless prescribed by TWO doctors. I haven’t found anything indicating it is otherwise legal. It’s sold everywhere in Texas though. Or something claiming to be cbd oil is.

You're actually thinking of marijuana oil, or THC oil, or whatever they're calling it besides "medical marijuana". It has to be prescribed by two doctors, it's available (legally) only for a narrow range of ailments, and it can't have a THC content higher than .5%. The stuff you see everywhere is perfectly legal since Texas passed the appropriate legislation a few months ago; that stuff can't have a higher THC content than .3%.

Thank you. I was just reading HB1325 (before coming back into this thread) that just recently passed, effective immediately. Good news if it works for anyone.

Placebo effect or not, if perceived pain is diminished and there are no bad side effects, what's the harm in using it (other than the cost)?

It's kind of interesting that dogs seem to be helped. I don't think dogs exhibit placebo effect.

A placebo effect would be in mind of the dog’s owner. I want my dog to feel better. I’ll focus on positive behavior and would accept that.

Hence my asking three experienced people if they saw a change. No it doesn’t eliminate the effect (They could just are being nice to me)

OK, so a couple comments (we were contacted about manufacturing some ice cream with CBD, so I talked to some folks.)

A) Lots, and lots, and lots of snake oil. Talking with the rep for the largest manufacturer of the stuff, the most proven stuff, is the products with THC.

B) No edible can be made in an FDA licensed facility. This was made EXTREMELY clear. (As in, "I was a terrible person for even asking/don't bring any in for trial runs/ensure there is none in my facility")

The FDA has approved CBD for use in treating certain rare seizures. Legally, that now makes CBD a pharmaceutical compound, and adding it to ice cream would be the same as adding viagra or Prozac to it...

Hence, ANY EDIBLE CBD, is being made in a place without being inspected/checked/licensed for interstate food sales.

I'm not sure if the local states will license someone to make it, or not...

I'm a libertarian, so I'm not too concerned about the unlicensed status, what I am concerned about are:

i) Do you know the people making the stuff/does anyone, or is it "Sum Dude" in a garage/shed.

ii) Some of those edibles, like the gummies, require a fairly extensive set up to make... So I'd be very suspicious of anyone who's got a million or so in machinery, making an unlicensed product, which is illegal to sell across state lines - at least in ice cream, the letter read like making this stuff would be the end of that company making any ice cream.

iii) One of the CBD oil manufacturers, sent out very clear instructions about what to avoid doing to their .3% THC product, lest it be chemically altered to become intoxicating...

Absolute snake oil. Those videos where they give the blithering idiot one single drop and he becomes Fred Astaire with an IQ of 200 instantly is bullshit.

I tried it for my never ending neuralgia and joint pain and it had ZERO effect.

Nothing.

I think the evidence indicates, it's neither snake oil, nor a cure all. It has some pharmacological and drug-like effects, but that doesn't mean it will cure "whatever ails ya."

My statement is based on the notion that "snake oil" has no medicinal value. CDB has some, but it's not a panacea.

If I'm not mistaken this is a product that was developed in Colorado by two brothers.

It's named after the little girl with epilepsy that was tremendously helped by the oil. It used to be very hard to come by. Not so much now apparently.

Edit: There is an about us (short video) in the link above. It's actually 7 brothers.

I won't ask what, but is that something that could easily happen inadvertently?

Interesting that they're looking at ice cream. One thing CBD and marijuana edibles have in common is that there needs to be some kind of oil or fat base to retain and deliver whatever's being delivered. Even tea bags have some kind of desicated coconut oil in them for that very reason.

We got some for the pup when she got real old. (pills). She seemed to be in less pain. I bought some topical rub on for my knee and it did nothing. The CBD sits unused next to the linament now, the linament has hot stuff in it and it will limber things up at least.

Perhaps there is some benefit for some condition or illness. I doubt there has been enough real, scientific study to know even that at this point. (Actual science - double blind, large groups, controlled, peer review, the whole works and not anecdotes or the "studies" of sellers of the stuff.)

It cannot possibly be as beneficial as many of its proponents suggest for such a wide variety of ailments as they would have you believe. That part of it is certainly snake oil.

On the other hand, there doesn't seem to be a big risk of negative effects, so if you have money to burn, or if it provides a placebo effect benefit - knock yourself out.

I tried CBD with the utmost of skepticism, and found a real- life relief from pain and insomnia from chronic pain. It has also been a benefit for my 75 year young Mother in law with fibromyalgia.

I will not advertise any specific “brand” as there has been a few I have tried and I will continue to use it as needed. I am amazed still that it is almost 2020 and we as a people turn our noses up on things that are readily available for us with such fear and skepticism. Same for Mary Jane. I’ll stop here Wink

I LOVE THIS FORUM
I have a older brother back in NY who enjoys smoking pot. He too has had back operations and lives with spinal stenosis. He claims to be more mobile and less pain when he smokes it. I am all for this if it helps people. There are youth, even one I heard at work who just want to get high. I no longer care what they do. I hope Black92 didnt take me wrong as again, I am poking fun at the plant being grown on farms. I hope your Grand Father gets relief Black92.

Not really. It’s pretty hard to reduce cortisol below what you need by supplementation. It’s usually a genetic thing, or disease and hat does it.

Doc told me, if you have chronic type pains that cause anxiety, not getting near enough sleep, oral or injected steroids cause anxiety, your cortisol is too high. Supplements take about 8-12 weeks to start reducing cortisol, so it’s not a miracle drug by any means. But it does work.

No. It was a complicated process. Seems highly unlikely it would be accidental.

And I would NOT EAT ice cream from an unlicensed manufacturer, and any CBD ice cream has to be. If you can find where some state/reputable 3rd party is inspecting it, and its just being sold across state lines, illegally, that's one thing.

Otherwise, ice cream is, pretty much, an ideal bacterial growth medium, and it costs a heck of a lot to manufacture it, safely.

I scratch manufacture, which is far more complicated, and expensive than the "Home Made" stuff that uses other companies' mix.

If you did the absolute lowest volume/lowest quality/basic hand-filled packed product, it would cost... maybe 50K, if you just didn't care about quality at all, but wanted to be fairly safe.

More like 200K. And experienced dairymen aren't very likely to want to get involved, without the FDA's approval.

Its just not likely to be a safely made product. And more likely to be made in some garage, which won't be safe.

Can lower it, thus relieving some symptoms of too much. (See previous link.)

Correct, and I own stock in that company. Big Grin
It has gone through full FDA approval. European approval is in line for this year.
