So I think they either shot it down or tried to shoot it down somewhere between 1:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. ET off the coast of Myrtle Beach.
There is also a TFR closing a huge swath of airspace that became active in the last hour or so. (Surface to 60,000 feet closed)
We just made a stop at Bucee's in Florence, S.C., and as we were driving south and about to pull off, there was some very unusual contrails and aircraft activity in the air just off the coast (it seemed). Then we definitely saw the balloon.
I've got pics of the balloon, but I do not have photos of the "unusual" contrails. (What I would describe as high-speed turns, almost looked like what you would see with a rocket launch.)
Update: Sure enough Fox News is saying it's on its way down.
Update 2: We can see it coming down from I-95 Exit 146.

Inexcusable to not take it down, could have been be done over Alaska or Canada where there are vast areas with little or no population. Why in the hell would we not?

Can someone explain what we're looking at here? I see two contrails, is one the intercepting plane and the other a missile? Someone was saying that due to how the balloon was instantly shredded, it must have been a shrapnel-producing munition with a proximity fuse.
EDIT: Reported to be an F-22 from Langley firing an AIM-9X Sidewinder missile.
