Taking a quick weekend vacation to the river this Thur/Fri/Sat. Looking for some hiking/water sandals that I can wear into the river for wading/swimming with the kiddos. Mostly likely order something from Amazon due to shipping/time crunch. Any suggestions?

Keen or Teva for me.

Keen Newport H2, usually Amazon has some colors on sale.

Another vote for Keen.

Anything with a closed toe and rubber or synthetic insoles. The natural insoles tend to get funky after awhile and don't dry as fast.

If you want a sandal type, Keen for closed toe, Chaco or, Teva for multi-strap open toe.

If you're looking for a multi-purpose or, hybrid water shoe, consider Salomon's Tech Amphibian. Spery has a couple of models that are similar. If there's an REI or, West Marine near you (online also), they should have such footwear, otherwise Zappos.com is your friend.

Chaco or keen. Only problem with keens is it's hard to get rocks out when one sneaks its way under your foot.

+1 for Keen, particularly the Newport H2 as recommended by UTsig. I go through a pair every couple of years and keep buying them. Although they fit great, I usually wear some low profile wool socks (think Wrightsock or SmartWool) as an extra precaution against blisters. In a dark color, it doesn't look stupid.

JohnV is correct about rocks or other small debris, but honestly, it's much nicer when wading or walking to not have to worry so much about stubbing/scraping your toes and/or getting the front flap of something open toed caught on rocks, sticks, etc.

I have 2 pairs of merrells, one closed toed and the other open, both pair have held up with daily wear, lots of water submersion while on the water boating and just swimming. Both very comfortable to walk many miles in

I have broken keens my Chacos refuse to die, my wife has a pair from 14 years ago she still wears.

I got my first pair of reef last month and they are by far the most comfortable I have ever had. I actually willingly walk long distances in these. Found them on amazon pretty cheap.
