Me and the family took a nice leisurely 4 mile hike through Silver Falls yesterday.

My mom (79 years old in the bottom of this pic) made it 3 miles to the parking lot of another entry point. We had to hike the last mile and come back to get her. She did very well. We thought the trail was going to be 2.5 to 3 miles, but ended up being 4.5, according to my MapMyRun tracker.

This fall is larger than it looks.

We hiked down mid-fall and this walkway is behind the fall.

You can see people just to the left of the fall.

Enjoy...

Tony.

That’s a great looking trail. A quick google says Oregon. Is that correct?

Yes. Silver Falls just east of Salem, Oregon. It's about a 2 hour drive from me It has hikes of various distances from under 2 miles up to 25-ish miles. This area has a series of waterfalls and our 4 mile hike covered three of them.

There are ten waterfalls that can be seen in the course of an eight mile day hike. It's crowded nearly all year round, regardless of the weather. Parking can be hard to find.

Very nice. Thank you for sharing the pictures and story. Your mom is awesome, which of course you know.

We hiked the river trail one year between the Upper and Lower Tahquamenon Falls. We figured 4 miles all, down hill because we started at the upper falls, right? WRONG! First, the parking lot was a mile from the trailhead. Then, there's a whole viewing area at the upper falls with staircases consisting of hundreds of steps and a good half a mile worth of walking. Then, the trail itself ks really closer to 5 miles with all the twists and turns. The trail has a ton of elevation changes such that you'd have no clue it went downhill overall. At the other end, it's another half mile to the parking lot there. My kids, 6, 8, and 9, at the time did great, but the looks on their faces when I told them we had to walk the trail backwards to get back to the truck was priceless. Fortunately, there's a shuttle that goes between the two parking areas.

That's just mean! Sounds like something I'd do!

Adding to the list of places to visit.

The hike under the overhang looks very cool.

Stunning. I may have to put the great northwest on our next vacation list.

We're going to Utah, Colorado and Wyoming in September if things continue to improve.

If anyone visits the area, just 2 hours north is Multnomah Falls. It's probably the most visited waterfall in the state. It's along the Columbia Gorge with the Columbia River right in front of it.

On the other side of the park, there's the South Falls. It is similar to the pic I took of the North Falls, and has a walkway behind the falls as well. This is not my picture, but the last time I visited this waterfall about 12 years ago.
