Mired in the Fog of Lucidity |
I don't know...it's just pretty hard to spot a bright spot for this company. Way too many headwinds and apparent lack of good options to make this company solidly profitable. SolarCity is pretty much in the tank too. Stocks of Tesla Opens a New Window. were down Monday afternoon amid concerns over the demand for the Model 3 vehicle in the United States. Tesla Inc.'s stock dropped 4.4 percent in midday trading to $201.83. The stock fell below $200 earlier in the session, its lowest point since late 2016. Overall, shares of the auto and energy company have dropped 50 percent since September 2018. Daniel Ives of WedBush, the financial services and Investment Company, said in a client note Monday that uneven signs on Model 3 demand could make it harder for Tesla to achieve a profit in its third and fourth quarters and the future. "We continue to have major concerns around the trajectory of Tesla's growth prospects and underlying demand on Model 3 in the US over the coming quarters which is putting more heat in the kitchen on Musk & Tesla to reign in expenses at an accelerated rate with profitability targets in 2H19 a Kilimanjaro-like uphill climb," Ives warned. Tesla should also press pause on expanding into insurance, robotaxis and other projects, he suggested. "The company instead should be laser-focused on shoring up core demand for Model 3 and simplifying its business model and expense structure," Ives added. The drop in shares follows Tesla CEO Elon Musk Opens a New Window. 's announcement Opens a New Window. last week that he would personally review the company's expenses in an effort to trim costs. In an email to employees, Musk said executives, including the CFO and Musk himself, would implement a "hardcore" cost-cutting program. Musk said the move was necessary because the company's first-quarter cash burn rate implies Tesla has just 10 months to break even. https://www.foxbusiness.com/ma...el3-musk-costcutting

They are going to either totally implode due to massive debt and competition from new electrics, (think BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Lexus) OR they will break out to the upside selling batteries etc. Place your bets. I am not involved. Too much competition brewing.

Wait, what? |
Things can only go south for Tesla as other manufacturers get full electric cars in the lineup- especially big companies with tons of cash to spare...something Tesla lacks at the moment. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

They're saying that last Friday was especially rough because Elon himself got margin call at 213 and had to unload a sizeable number. It broke thru support at 250 and 244, broke thru its 200 day trading avg. So chart readers say that only real support now is at 188 and that level will be defended fiercely by longs as well as short covering. We could see some of that today by it touching 195 and bounced right back up. So we'll see but it will take some huge negative event to bring it below 180-188.

Despite the success of the S model I’m not sure how Tesla can survive. Hell - their using tents for some of the production processes and, in my opinion, the stock is way overpriced. However, I can envision one of the big auto manufacturers purchasing Elon’s auto production when he finally shits the bed. Tesla cars may survive with some adults in charge.

Tesla has been existing for some time on little more than promises by Musk and good feelings by shareholders, but if Model S & X vehicle sales stay in the toilet, and Model 3 sales don't materialize in Q2 and/or Q3, people are going to start dumping Tesla stock at the speed of sound. And as others have mentioned, competition in the sector is only going to get more aggressive throughout the rest of 2019 and into 2020 as numerous companies enter the fray. Finally, since Tesla's battery venture with Panasonic is at best on hold, Tesla and Musk have little to no options left if Tesla sales continue to falter. I'm just trying to find the right point to start buying put options on the stock. I just don't see good things in Tesla's future. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. Why is that? Aren't they operating out of the *ginormous* former NUMMI facility? God bless America.

Their fully automated and computerized manufacturing facility was having so many issues they were unable to resolve timely, they shut down those processes and went back to a manual/human manufacturing process slowing production significantly. As such, Musk and crew built big tents in the parking lot and added additional production to the tent(s). Remember, Tesla's financial health is specifically tied to production promises by Musk. I thought the whole process was insane when I read the overview of what they were doing. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. I'm still shocked at the number of friends, acquaintances, coworkers, neighbors, etc. that haven't heard about Tesla's rocky financial position. Yeah agreed. I think it will test 188-190 soon and bounce several times in the next coming months until Q2 call. Probably range bound until the Q2 call. So I might get in some small calls and puts during this 2 month period. In the long run, I think it's foolish to be long on TSLA, for the reasons that you and others had already mentioned. Their Autonomous Day was just a diversionary tactic for their horrendous Q1 results. And fElon must've smoked a bowl before giving that presentation. It was so bad.

The reason sales have "slumped" is because the subsidies that the taxpayers provided have finally ceased, effective 12/31/2018. The cost cutting efforts included firing all the Tesla dealers, because Elon thought on line sales would work great for cars. https://www.americanthinker.co...d_in_bankruptcy.html I am heartened by the decrease in the price of Tesla stock. To me it indicates that sanity may be returning to the financial markets. ---------------------------------------------------- Dances with Crabgrass

That might have been a contributing factor, but it isn't the root cause of the slump in sales. To date, no one seems to be able to accurately peg exacting why sales for Model S & X vehicles have slumped so severely. The stock price is falling because Tesla is running out of road and fantasies. Amazingly, some private investors and Tesla customers are still ignoring all the writing on the wall and believing the unicorn and fairy dust commentary spun by Elon. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Oh no they won't. There will be a long list of corrupt politicians that will line up to beg for Tesla's place at the government teet, but I do not believe the current administration (assuming President Trump has a second term) will have an appetite for such a bailout. Tesla is not GM and Chrysler, regardless their fantasy market cap. And contrary to popular belief, a majority of the country is not on the EV bandwagon, so polling will likely show they will not be on board with siphoning their bank accounts to bailout a billionaire's toy car company. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Here in the fly over country I do not see battery only electric vehicles being a successful market. Perhaps a hybrid that operates like a rail locomotive with an engine that operates at peak efficiency driving a generator to keep the batteries charged during extended operation and a plug in for evening top off might work. Distances between charging stations and time spent down while topping batteries do not seem practical in wide open spaces or for Interstate Highway travel. For city driving the concept of battery only power is much more viable, so unless there is a major leap in a cheap, long lasting, high charge density battery full electrics are a no go for the present. Articles like the one in the link below aren't helping the sales of electric cars.
