Have a two year old F250. It's been hit 6 times. Been rear ended 3 times, side swiped twice and the body shop banged it backing it out of the paint booth. Hasn't been 100% since a lady hit it square in a rear tire tearing up the axle. This morning, there was power steering fluid on the ground. Somewhere along the line, a line got nicked and finally sprung a leak. Enough is enough. Monday, the search starts.
With that kind of track record, I'd lease not buy!
I'm partial to Fords and they build a nice truck and would be my first choice. However, I did ride in a newish Dodge with the cummins and you'd be hard pressed to even tell it was a diesel inside or out. It was quiet, very quiet.

You are a crash magnet. Are you sure a new truck will help?

Wow. That truck must have done something wrong in a previous life.

I was trying to use my GM points and was looking at the Colorado. It was a nice little truck with plenty of options. In the end, I went stupid and bought a BMW convertible instead.
If the locals are that bad at driving how about a surplus Duce and a half? I’ve thought one of those would be fun and who cares who hits you? The other guy would always get the brunt of the damage.
That said, I drive a ‘95 Dodge Ram 2500, Cummins, manual trans, 2wd. King cab, 8’ bed. GREAT truck. Have done as high as 25+ mpg on the highway. Highly recommended. Mine is a 12 valve model, not as complex as the newer ones. Will take all but 3000# in the bed.
Good ones can still be found. Old ones have been known to do 300,400 and 500k miles. Mine has a paltry 166k

You don't list your location, but if you go new there's a dealer in Boise, Idaho, that basically sells new trucks at 80% of list. At least for Ram they do. I was in the market last year and had I gone new I would've flown to Boise to get a new Ram. They specialize in folks flying in and driving home. Great deal. I don't think the Chevy trucks had as big of a discount, but not sure.

23 mpg at 70 mph, with the air conditioning on.
A friend recently bought one of these. $70,000!! I bought one new in '91' for $24,000 and put 200k on it.

I think what you need to be looking for is a new body shop...
